Yeah, good point. While Granlund isn't completely without skill, it's definitely a notch or two lower than Sven.

Granlund is a good hockey player but I just don't know if any one skill sticks out enough to place him as an NHL regular. He doesn't seem to have the elite skills to be a scorer, isn't great at face-offs, and he's not much of a grinder so he's going to have to hone his game to find that niche that will keep him in the NHL.

Actually, I still think his wrister is top-notch, and should definitely translate as a scorer.

I think the problem with him is that he hasn't been quick or strong enough to get into areas to make use of it, or perhaps he is just taking too long in the actual release. When he does get it off, I actually think it is deadly. Other than that, I agree - solid all-around player, but nothing really stands out at the moment, but still lots of time to develop into one for a team that has the patience.

In 102 NHL games, Granlund has 31 points. In 119 games, Josh Jooris has 37 points.

Given the spots they occupy on the roster, I don't know that I'd even trade Jooris to get Granlund.

Too bad that really good shot of his hasn't really been lethal NHL level. He should've been able to translate to a decent goal scorer by this point. I think that's mainly cause he doesn't have the high end IQ to get himself into open spots offensively to use it. Just doesn't generate enough shots and chances. He's capable defensively but the rest of his game is fairly average by NHL standards.

You make some good points but Granlund is the youngest of the three and younger than a lot of guys in Stockton too. Just because he has advanced quicker than some of them doesn't mean he has reached his peak. He was further ahead than Poirier at the same age and I wouldn't write him off just yet, for example.

I'm in the boat with the people who don't think he will ever be a truly impactful player in the NHL. Not good enough for top 6 and isn't really an ideal bottom 6 either. Him like Baertschi I see having so so seasons until they kind of fade out of the NHL. I just don't see either becoming what you'd hope out of a top 6 or bottom 6 on a contender. I'm a bit skeptical on Shinkaruk in that top 6 role as well but I think his end to last season showed he has more potential than either of those two so I'm excited to see what he can do next year.

Ferland gets a different view because he has shown flashes of high-end skill, and bringing a physicality that neither of Jooris or Granlund do. Whether that ends up being flushed out remains to be seen, but there are indicators that he could end up as a top-6 player (Same sort of feeling people initially got from a guy like Kassian).

The consensus is that what you've seen from Granlund and Jooris is what you're going to get.

Watching Markus and lately his brother, despite being similar in size, Mikael is a lot stronger on the puck. So I think if Markus can get stronger, he can make himself a decent career.

and I agree Markus has a great shot, if he ever gets the chance to use it.

Granlund lacks size, strength and grittiness. This is why IMO he'll never be an impact NHLer.

Jooris lacks hands, playmaking and vision. This is why IMO he'll never be an impact player.

Ferland has all the tools to be an impact NHLer. He has size, strength, skating, puck handling, passing, grittiness. Only thing he has yet to show at this level is finishing.

Ferland by far has shown the most promise and ability to be a top two line player out of those supposed bubble players.
