I totally agree. Anything less than Lang's best season then the signing is a disappointment.

As for Colborne, it really isn't something to worry about until Pribyl proves himself to be a full time NHLer.
It took Robert Lang a long time to establish himself in the NHL. He was 27 before he really broke through a full-timer and then 29 when he became a first line guy.

Didn't we at one time have a chance to sign Lang but passed?

yes, he attended Flames training camp in 1989, the year before the Los Angeles Kings drafted him as a 19-year-old.

Yes he was invited to a Flames training camp but wasn't signed IIRC

This doesn't seem right. In my memory he came to a camp in between being with the Kings and Pens - when he was bouncing around. Am I wrong?

I recall him attending a camp after bouncing around for a while as well. I want to say Pierre Page was coach, but not 100% certain.

Anaheim's opponent in the West showdown, the Detroit Red Wings, doesn't have any ex-Flames, although centreman Robert Lang attended Flames training camp in 1989, the year before the Los Angeles Kings drafted him as a 19-year-old.

I think that should be late 90's. I remember it being more in the young guns era.

Maybe he did attend as per the article, but also attended on a PTO years later.

Maybe one day, but for now I imagine him in Stockton learning the NA game and developing like a 23 year old coming straight from the Czech league should and probably will be doing.

Going to keep my expectations low for now, no point in expecting the moon and then being disappointed that he tales a normal development path.

Ugh. Treliving calling Pribyl a natural center during an interview on the Fan960. Said he played between that and RW. Shades of Cervenka

Also says he is confident they could get him signed and is a player they have high interest in. Notes that expectations should be tempered if they do sign him. Not a savior. Will need time. Good young player who has a chance. Says sooner rather than later they hope to have good news on him.

News Update

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Further to @RogMillions info, Treliving says #Flames have strong interest in Czech F Daniel Pribyl and is confident they'll get him signed.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Treliving confirms to us Pribyl deal would be two years. Also confirms he's a natural centre who spent some time at wing this year. #Flames

Remember when Robert Lang attended the Flames training camp one year and got cut.

I believe it was 1996-97 IIRC.

Edit: sureloss beat me to it.

Yeah, the majority of the thread was discussing that.
