I can vaguely remember a show when I was kid, early 70s probably, was an older lady, would show her go shopping then prepare a meal. Had to be one of the first cooking shows around. Seemed Canadian to me but my googling is not good apparently, cant find anything like it at all out there. Anyone old also recall this?
My wife thinks it would be terrible TV, but I think they should do a Chopped with all amateurs. Get four dummies like me who can follow a recipe but can't just create things like proper chefs can, and see what they can do. Oh, rutabaga, black licorice, red wine vinegar, and duck liver? No big deal.

Cook's Country and America's Test Kitchen is my go to show if I want to learn, Cutthroat Kitchen and Chopped are my go to kick back and just enjoy shows.
Jamie Oliver's "The Naked Chef" got me interested in food and taught me a lot. New Classics with Rob Feenie was another one I liked. Cook like a Chef was interesting, but too technical for me. I used to love The Food Network back in the day, when they had more stand-up-and-cook shows. Now it's just a Guy Fieri and Bobby Flay love-fest.

Have you seen chopped Canada? Seriously, the discrepancy in talent between the US and Canadians contestants is embarrassing. Suser Lee is hilarious though - he is the living incarnation of Asian dad meme.

I really wish we had the Cooking Channel in Canada. I used to watch Food Network constantly in the old days (Emeril, Iron Chef, etc.) but I hate the reality comp shows.
This.
Chef at home with Michael Smith was posted above, but is that even on anymore? Used to be able to put it on the Cooking Network anytime and find an actual chef in kitchen set teaching various recipes. Distinct lack of that programming anymore.
Always enjoyed Good Eats and Americas Test Kitchen. Particularly because of how they explain the process behind why recipes work or don't work.
One of my favourites, just because of how hilariously low rent it was, was Cookin' Cheap. I think they may have shown it on PBS at one time. It was along the lines of, "today we will make salmon salad sandwiches". And just open a can of salmon and add a dollop or two of mayonnaise. It was ridiculous they had the show on for as long as it lasted.
