I think you're correct though. I was also thinking Chechnya as well.

China (People's republic) doesn't recognize them as a separate country.

I know that, but does the UN? I have to think so. But they're not on that list.

Either China has veto power, or unofficial "veto power" on that issue.

They probably do, but not officially to not ruffle China's feathers

Essentially, the football team was based in Belfast and heavily dominated by Northern clubs. When the split came, the guys in Dublin set up their own football association. The rugby team however was already organized on an all Ireland basis and there was no need to separate them.

In relation to Taiwan, we do whatever our overlords tell us.
Most of the time when a country has a People's Republic or something in front of it, there was a time in it's history when they wanted to get the position across that the people mattered.
I still refer to it as the Dominion of Canada. It's important that the world know that we have Dominion.

Okay, now Czechia needs to declare war against Chechnya.
Just for the lulz.

I've never considered exploding humans to be a good comedic device.

Says 'Reaper.'
It can be more of a 'slapfight' if it assuages your conscience.

I take my work very seriously. It is no laughing matter. A slapfight shall make a brilliant comedic device. It is so decreed.

Should have gone with Bohemia. Could have picked one of these songs as the National Anthem:
Also, I dream of a day when the Republic of Canada and the Republic of Australia are a thing.

People do know that the former Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic are different things, yes?

I have often asked this question as well. I don't change my name when I travel to another country. My first thought was people with english as a first language are unable/willing to learn the proper way to say non-english names. The fact that Jokipakka is now known as Kevin it might point to this being a real possibility.
The reality however is that we are not the only language/culture that has there own name for countries. Almost everywhere you go there are local names for countries.
It is an oddity. For some countries it's easy to understand that they might have been given names hundreds of years ago that might reference their location such as east mountians or something along those lines. The more younger countries are more of a head scratcher to me.
