The stats guys will lynch me because I can't quantify it (it's a character thing), but Nazem Kadri is not the kind of guy you win with. Don't care how good the AAV is, I wouldn't want him on my team.

That didn't take long for one of the most over used and poorly used tropes in sports to appear!

I hate Kadri with the fire of a thousand suns, but he's a solid player. Will be their 2nd line center long term, and they'll likely draft Matthews to be their 1st line center. Rielly will be on their top PP and at least 2nd pairing for a very long time. There are finally some pieces coming together for Toronto, but it'll be at least another 3 years before they make the playoffs.

Ahhhh 20% is a better chance than any other team, but I wouldn't exactly call it likely. Regardless, any of the top 4 picks will help them out

Also it's Toronto. Of course they'll lose the lottery. Matthews is on his way to Edmonton!

Jermain Franklin @TSNJFranklin
Kadri's stats are similar to Colborne's this season. Could the #Flames RFA be looking for something similar??? Gulp!

I doubt it, since Kadri has had 39+ points 5 times, while Colborn has had 30+ points once.

This probably does give Colborn a little bit to base his contract on though.

Why do you say that? He's a very competitive kid. Babcock and Lamoreillo love that about him.

an old chestnut for sure....

no trade clause = two more the Oilers won't be getting!

except kadri has done it much more consistently over the last 3-4 years.

colborne's shooting % during the last 2 months of the season is nothing to sneeze at.

Reilly is a fantastic deal. He will be a top pairing guy.

Kadri is good price but too much term. I wouldn't want the Flames to make that signing at all.

Have to think that Rielly contract sets the bar for Ristolainen. I'd be happy to see him sign that exact contract.

I'm not sure about Kadri. With the likes of Nylander and Marner(plus maybe Matthews) coming up, Kadri could find himself slipping down the line up quite quickly. The AAV isn't too bad, but the term seems a couple of years too long.

I think that signing has the potential to be a poor one in a couple of years time.

Oh and as for Reilly, another guy that will be making more than T.J. Brodie next season.

Rielly deal is solid. Brodie's deal is better, but not all deals can be 'steals'.

Kadri - for what his output, it is a fair deal. However, he is a very undisciplined kid with maturity issues. Not sure I would want my team giving such a long term deal with some sort of a trade clause. If he doesn't mature in the next couple of seasons, it can really blow up in Toronto's face.

Two pages in and not one mention of the Flames comparable to Rielly.

Rielly has been picked by Peter Chiarelli and Stan Bowman to be one of the d-men on team u-24 at the world Cup.

The Flames have contracted an age eligible d-man for 750k /yr more for the same term that was not chosen for this team.

Pretty much of a glass house when critiquing the Edmonton management style of awarding long-term contracts based on potential.

Be interesting what Seth Jones and Ryan Murray (RFAs) both picked for this team over Hamilton will get.

Trouba and Lindholm agents are rumored to be using Hamilton's contract as the minimum for what these guys are worth. Will Trouba be picked to team u-24? Will he get paid more or less than Hamilton?

Hamilton will be in the discussion to make that team. There could be any number of reasons that he wasn't selected top four. All of the guys you listed including Reilly and Hamilton are comparable excellent young 2 way d-men with top pairing potential/are already top pairing.
