Meh, oh well. I'll be royally peeved if she's shut down in the future though.

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about how the NHL refused to create/disclose their own version stating that fans 'weren't interested' in the concept.

Remember when they used to tell people not to take still photos at hockey games?
There is zero money to be made by corporations banning short videos/GIFs these days. It's free viral marketing.
Yeah the leagues that shut this down are idiotic.
Great free publicity that expands your reach and opens your product to new eyes. Yet they will try to ban it so people will go watch highlights on their websites after being forced to watch 2 minutes of ads.

There are more than a few good alternatives that popped up. The NHL may be dopey for not doing it themselves, but its more of a dumb business decision than hurting anyone. Given their attempts at advanced stat tracking it probably would be worse than what is out there anyways.

True. I still don't know what SAP what thinking.
Anyhow, Viva la Gifs!

You are so wrong on so many levels.
The NHL didn't want to publish any thing close to the version of capgeek because the owners (who Bettman works for) doesn't want that information released not because they think the fans don't care. The capgeek owner had very good sources which allowed him to publish the information. The NHL doesn't want to willingly post that information.
a) Fans can't have gifs - which I said before I read the Yahoo report
b) NHL said fans don't want Capgeek - true.
c) She works/ed for the Oilers - true.

That just proves my point further unless of course you just read the headline of that article.
Did I post the wrong link?
Quote:
“I don’t think it’s a resource we need to provide because I’m not sure fans are as focused on what players make as they are about their performance on the ice,” [Bettman] said.

The Following User Says Thank You to TheScorpion For This Useful Post:
Yes he feels that way but that's not why they aren't releasing the information. The NHL already has an internal system that was way better than capgeek.
Why do you think some teams don't release information on some contracts? Is it because they think the fans don't care? It's because they don't want all that information released.
