My opinion:

Let Nakladal go and sign Schlemko instead. I believe he's a UFA. Schlemko is a faster skater and has better outlet passes.

Isn't Nakladal a UFA? Never mind "should" we sign him..."can" we? I think he has shown enough that a bunch of teams would have interest in him.

No brainer to try and re-sign him. But it is crowded back there so it wouldn't surprise me if he went to another team for a better opportunity.

Wideman and Smid need to go. There is no other way around it.

Really depends on the salary. He's fine, but I wouldn't want to go over $1.5 million.

"After this season my contract’s finished,” Nakladal said. “We’ll see what’s going to happen. I really wish to stay here in Calgary. I like it here, so we’ll see what happens.

If Nakladal isn't signed, it would likely be for one reason, to keep a spot open for a youngster who is on the cusp (Kulak) or Wotherspoon who is ready.

Clearly there is a log jam on the bottom 3 and getting tougher with guys becoming ready.

I don't see how BT can keep Wideman (no choice), Engalland, Nakladal and Jokipakka with Spoon and Kulak ready in the wings.

Losing Nakladal isn't going to hurt the team IMO, but it would be poor assett management as the guy can play.

I'll take Nakladal over Wotherspoon or Kulak based on what I saw from him this season.

The guy is solid, has a booming shot from the point, and will get better still.

In my mind he replaces Wideman and has more upside due to better skating ability.

Yeah I don't want to see this guy get "Schlemko'ed"

Really can't wait for the Smid, Wideman and to a certain extent Engelland contracts all to expire (or have them traded). Then the Flames can use younger cheaper options to fill out the rest of the D behind the BIG 3.
