To the exact point of the thread, sure Dawson Raymond might not be the right guy for the job. But as a general point, this is a good idea and we should develop a workable model that nets us 600 convictions. Or at the very least I would suggest all the pedophiles who are at home thinking of better ways to lure kids because we've taken away the low hanging fruit are at least not actually luring kids.

Your hearts in the right place, but vigilante/public shaming just isn't acceptable, imo. Even groups like these would be alright if they just operated on a "gather info, lure someone out, turn over to police with evidence" basis, and that was the extent of their involvement.
Then the accused are given a fair shake under the justice system. What you and other people in favor of public shaming/vigilante justice miss is that the result of the public getting involved in their own form of justice isn't like accusing people of theft and then the accused possibly being acquitted and then being really pissed off and disrupted but otherwise go back to life.
When the accusations are more heinous, the SJW and those that cheer it on and spread it around have already taken someone's life if they're innocent/underserving of their fate. Nobody comes back from accusations like these, they either commit suicide or retreat from society and no longer have a life.
So on the surface it just sounds like you're saying more needs to be done, but judging by your subsequent posts it sounds more like you're actually defending this guy and others like him, which isn't great.
I mean, you don't even know what resources goes into this stuff for CPS or any other police force, but that has more to do with them operating properly under our justice system, and yet you're equating it to not doing enough. Our police do exactly what this guy does. The difference is sex crimes officer X doesn't go on facebook and say "HEEEYYY EVRYONE look at this guy!! I just posed as a 13 year old and busted him, look at his face, here's his info, ruin his life!!!!! btw the trial is set for next month, but who cares, I want hits!!!!!".

Whatever happened to the Guardian Angels? I remember them setting up shop in Calgary a decade ago, and supported their measures at the time.

Gotcha. It just seems like anyone can cast a line a get a school of predators to show up in about thirty seconds. If it's that easy why don't we have an larger net? If amateurs across the country can do this so easily (and their videos are by and large of legitimate pedophiles) then there are not enough sex crime officer x's.
I'm not so much defending the creep catcher guy as I am saying that one way or another more of this needs to be done.

I agree with keeping communities safe from predators. There may be issues of entrapment that Police and members of the community may frown upon. It's really hard to say. Maybe we should be looking at countries with low recidivism rates (Europe), rather than our southern neighbors for answers.

Obviously some actually are pedophiles, but that's irrelevant when you consider the old saying "I'd rather guilty men go free than one innocent man go to jail", which applies to the actual justice system, which doesn't even come into play here, as he's acting as judge jury and executioner outside the law.
|
Pretty sure the police have told him to stop doing this. Nothing he is doing would ever hold up in court and is most likely putting actual investigations at risk.

Just think of that incident in B.C recently, where the teenage girls started a vigilante social media campaign against a guy who they thought was taking pictures of them with his phone. Eventually the RCMP got involved. Turned out he was just some middle-aged near-sighted guy who forgot his glasses, and he had to hold his phone out away from his face to read it. Police said there were no grounds for charges.
Facebook tries and convicts B.C. man of being a pedophile, except he's not a pedophile at all

Even if you are hooking up for a random with someone who says they are 18, you need to be skeptical. 18 is the go-to age for minors that are lying about their ages, for obvious reasons. And taking someone at their word doesn't help you legally.
A friend of mine was in a band and used to have lots of girls 13 to 15 sending them photos and trying to hook up through the band's website. They would always say they were 18 or 19 at first and physically they could pull it off. I don't think anything sexual happened, but I know at one point he had fallen for one pretty hard and was all set to hook up but then she started the whole "I am actually 17, but my birthday is soon. I lied, I am actually 15 and a half, but I still really like you...".

I'd like to see you post some proof to back your claim up that the various municipal and federal law enforcement agencies are not “using a larger net”.
I'd be willing to bet there is a very good reason why this type of work is not widely publicized and the amount of effort going into this is a lot more than you think.

No proof at all other than by all accounts this is like shooting fish in a barrel. And when I googled Calgary police stings i saw that they publish one or two a year in the Calgary herald that target prostitution and one article actually mentioned online work where they caught three predators. I suspect there would be more news of it. Prostitutes, johns, fraudsters, and gangsters all get their mention in the paper repeatedly. But I'm more than happy to be proven wrong.

I don't think its like shooting fish in a barrel at all. I think that the reason this guy has had however many guys show up is because he says "he's" 18 and switches at the last minute. If it were like shooting fish in a barrel you wouldn't need to do that. You would just tell everyone you were 14 or whatever and watch the creeps roll in.

Isn't this the kind of guy(Raymond) we usually hear about again in a few years as being the true predatory serial pedophile? The police should keep an eye on that guy.

I've watched a lot of his videos and he posts screen shots of the chat and almost always states he is 13 several times and the guys still show up.
Not defending his actions but most of these guys do seem to be pedophiles.

He also states in one of his videos where the guys says "the profile said 19" that he posts the wrong age in the profile because the site would kick him off if he posts a age younger than 18.
In the screenshots he clearly says he's 12 several times and the guy still met up with him.

He's a...well, the filter would catch what I want to call him. He's a famewhore and nothing else. The cops find him a nuisance and he fubars investigations. Now he's asking for money - for what? Why does he need money? There's nothing he does that requires funding. Nothing.
He's as creepy as the guys he goes after. I know the creeps are out there but his methods...just no. He's a hindrance, not a help. One day he's going to get pounded, or worse.

100% this.
He's had quite a few posts on FB asking for money.
One was for his dying mother. One was for "equipment" to do more videos.
Asking his "fans" to go out with them so they can buy him drinks.
The main page of his website has a "donate" button.
He's getting "fans" and his ego has bloated. Famewhore is so fitting for this guy.
I don't know how the police side of things go, but I remember reading something along the lines of: If the police are monitoring a suspect, putting in hours and following the rules of the law, and then this guy "catches" that suspect before police build a solid case, it's all for naught because they can't use anything this guy does to catch pedos.

Yeah he is obviously letting the fame get to his head. "Do you know who I am" in several of his videos. I chuckled at that.

My problem is just like many of you. He seems to be doing it more for the attention he receives and less because he cares about the community.
The dude has a facial tattoo. That says it all.
