True, the hotstove on Sat's HNIC talked about how many points could have had if not for sub-par goaltending at the beginning of the year...15 games I would say, we could have had 20 more points with decent results.

There's such a small % difference from 3rd worst on it almost doesn't matter to me.

I definitely could see the Leafs finishing 30th now. If the Oilers go 1-1 and the Leafs go 1-2 Oilers would finish ahead because they have more ROW.

People say this but it is a bit misleading. The percentage difference for winning #1 is small but that difference also applies to drafting 2nd or 3rd as well so that small difference is actually tripled when talking about drafting top 3.

30th place has a 52.5% chance of drafting top 3
29th place has a 39% chance of drafting top 3
28th place has a 34.2% chance
27th has a 29% chance
26th has a 26.3% chance
25th has a 23.5% chance

Right now it's super tight for 28th to 25th. The difference between finishing 3rd last and 6th last is more than 10% chance of drafting top 3. 3rd will have more than a 1 in 3 chance while 6th will have less than a 1 in 4 chance. Perhaps more importantly there is a cap as to how far you fall so 3rd last is guaranteed picking top 6 while 6th last could draft 8th or even 9th if they got super unlucky.

The draft seeding is still important. That said with a strong top 12 or so this year it won't be horrible if we don't win the lottery.

That's the thing for me. Finishing lower is protection for teams jumping ahead of us. We obviously want the higher pick but I really don't want to drop out of the top six when all is said and done. Any of these players would be great:

Matthews
Laine
Pullujarvi
Chycrun/Tkachuk/Dubois
