They're at it again. Have been getting calls from 778-330-2270 for the past week or so, finally picked up at 8am this morning. They have my wife's name (Maiden name only, not my name) and say she has a collection from Direct Energy, but they would not give us any details on amount or anything unless we gave them our address and personal information, which we declined to do.

So we call direct energy (who we have never been with in the over 9 years we've been together and she thinks she's never been with) and they have no record either of an outstanding debt from her.

We have ordered her credit score from equifax to verify that nothing is on there.

There will be nothing on her credit rating. They are simply trying to scare you into paying them money. CBV is the worse one out there but there are many of them out there. Never ever pay a collection agency, if you are in doubt always contact the company they are claiming to be collecting for. If you find you do owe a debt tell the company you will only deal with them on the matter and not a collection agency.

They're trying to scare people into paying.

I had the call come in, a big bank with a case number, they gave me a number and thanked them and told me I was going to call the number on the banks website since I've never dealt with them. The person on the other side at that point got blustery, basically accusing me of being fraudulent.

So I told him to package up all the information on this file that he had and send it by mail, and I would forward it to my lawyer, I would also require all of his information, including employee number, exact extension and name of the direct supervisor because I would make sure he was named in any legal action that I decided to pursue if this was fraudulent.

I also informed him that if he tried to call again before I got the information that I would forward all of this information to the RCMP.

I haven't received a call again, nor a package of information.

The best thing is if they give you the name of the bank or company that you owe money to that you inform them that you are going to call the main number on their directory website with your case number.

If you have a debt that you owe money on that's gone to "Collections"it will usually show up on your credit report, so I have a membership to equifax so I can get up to date information if I need it and use their resolution service if it comes down to it.

Honestly I had one credit collections issue with Gold's Gym who are absolute scum, and I thanked the credit collections company and went straight to Gold's Gym about it and ripped their heads off and the credit company never called again and there was never a report on my credit report.

Affglow (aka Affinity Global) is bad too. We got a call for my middle son from them, claiming monies owed. Suffice it to say, for various reasons I won't get into here, there is absolutely no way in hell he'd have any monies owing to anyone for anything. I remember doing a bit of research on them and finding a lot of nasty #### out about them. They are downright horrible on the phone. Given there's a limited amount they can actually say and do when they call, when the turd who called us starting getting snarky, I just said nope, and hung up on them and blocked the number.

Don't be surprised if they still call you, these scumbags have like 20 phone numbers just for getting around call blocking.
