Love the way he's played so far. Seems confident, poised, smart, and aware enough of his own style to navigate his weaknesses. Owns underrated offensive skills and has been a boon defensively.

I think he'll probably pin the top 4 for a while and become a stabilizing force for the Flames defensively while keeping the attack going in the other end. A really stacked team might place him as #5 but I don't think the Flames will need to get that deep on the blue line at the end of the rebuild.

I liked him before he became a Flame and I think he will be a great fit on the team. He is a solid top 4 guy and is capable of playing on the penalty kill. He provides a lot of strength.

Besides, it's not THAT hard. It's mostly phonetic anyway.

I see him being dealt to the Isles this off-season in a package for Hamonic.

I hope we can move past Hamonic. And besides, it is right to praise Jokipakkas play since his arrival. I think it would be respectful to not muddy this appreciation thread up with pure speculation.

Jokipakka is much more fun to say and not that difficult to spell..

Do you think he appreciates being called Kevin and not by his name?

None the less, I really like the cut of his jib!
Jyrki Jokipakka is one of my all-time favorite Flame names.

Kevin is one of my all-time favorite Flame nicknames.

Jyrki "Kevin" Jokipakka is IMO the best name/nickname combo in Flames history. Maybe league history.

The question was...

Kevin has looked pretty good in his short time with the Flames so far. How do you see him fitting in the future with the team?
Didn't know it was a "Jokipakka circle jerk" only.

Jokipakka is the exact type of defenceman we desperately needed to round out our top 4 especially. I'm not sure if he is a #4 as of yet, but he's been great so far.

If at worst he's a great #5 I'm pretty thrilled with the return so far!

Fair play on the trade to NYI speculation, but for the sake of argument what is the collective view on Jokipakka being better than Hamonic?

All the Hjalmarsson comparisons have got me thinking. I haven't watched Hamonic very much at all, but would he be a significant upgrade over Jokipakkas upside?

Hamonic is a stud. He's pretty much the Isles #1 defenseman and he's only about a year older than Jokipakka. I like Joki, but I doubt he'll ever be as good as Hamonic.

Oh my bad. I forgot that this is CP and the Jyrki Jokipakka discussion was actually a thinly veiled title to a Travis Hamonic Circle Jerk thread . Start a Hamonic discussion thread and I'll go talk about Jokipakka there. Sound good? Great, thanks for doing that Chief.

EDIT: And I'll put some thought into the idea anyways. Jokipakka is cheaper than Hamonic, probably fits in better and won't eat into the cap for three more years at least. Jokipakka is a better fit for the Flames now and later than Hamonic is. And I don't want 21 million tied up in the Flames' top 4 D (Hamilton, Gio, Brodie and Hamonic) when we don't know when the cap goes up, our dire need to address G, RW and over all wing depth. Jokipakka saves a bunch of money and has so far proven more than capable of being an uber bargain for three seasons at least. And we haven't even moved Wideman yet...

Heavy cowboy/rodeo influenced city vs heavy cowboy/rodeo influenced city...

I remember when we traded for Jokinen, I thought it was pronounced "Joke-anin", and I'm sure many others who never heard the name did as well. So if Jyrki Jokipakka is tired of being called "Jerkey Jokeypakka" and is fine with Kevin, so be it. I really doubt he cares what people on a forum call him, be it Jokipakka, Kevin or even ######bag

I personally always have and always will type out/say Jokipakka when mentioning him because it's such an awesome name and much cooler than ...Kevin

Saying "Jyrki Jokipakka" is a perfect phonetic replacement for "puppy-monkey-baby," and actually makes that commercial almost bearable.

I'm really enjoying Jokipakka and I think he's going to be a part of this team moving forward but I'd love to be able to have him in the bottom pairing. Not that he isn't good enough but if they could have a d corps of: Gio, Brodie, Hamilton, Hamonic, Jokipakka, one of Wotherspoon/Nak and Engelland, I think they'd be doing very well.

Good to see more Finns on the team again!

Not sure if this has been brought up by someone else but Jokipakka translated means "Riverdeck". It's an unusual surname even by Finnish standards.

Quite happy with this acquisition so far and nice for the organization to finally start looking at younger players on ELC's for the bottom pairing rather than overpaid veteran players which has been a team issue going back to the Darryl Sutter years.

I agree. If he proves to be as steady and capable as he looks so far Jokipakka will be one of the most valuable Flames per dollar on the roster.
