If by some magic the Flames win Matthews, that should NOT be the impetus to hire Crawford.
Brad would be silly not to be constantly exploring his personnel options, but if he hires him for that reason, he's a bad GM.

Can he drag our special teams into the middle of the pack? If he can, hire him and sack 'artley!

I wouldn't be upset if we drafted Mathews and brought Crow on as an associate coach. How is he at special teams coaching?

Yup, the reports over here say that the club has known for a while that Crawford intends to go back to NA. That and, you know, their epic collapse in the playoffs has led to the decision to not offer him a new contract.

Put all his eggs in the Dan Cloutier basket in LA for... reasons. I've never heard anything like the "Fire Crawford" chants in LA. Absolutely bombed there, then Joe Nieuwendyk inexplicably thought it was a good idea to replace Dave Tippett with him. Crawford also bombed in Dallas. I think with the way his last two coaching stints went it will be hard for a team to consider him again.
But in this league Nolan and Tortorella keep on getting jobs so who knows.

Just listening to a replay of the Crawford interview on TSN 1040 radio, he is fine with taking an associate coaching position with a NHL team.

Well, if he winds up as an Oiler that wont be an issue.

He was decent in his early career... never seemed to adjust to the new post-lockout NHL. As much as I don't want Hartley to be the coach going forward I would not endorse Crawford as a replacement.

His teams struggle playing sound defense so replacing Hartley with Crawford would be a lateral move at best as they are more motivators than teachers. This team needs a coach like Trotz or Hitchcock that can teach team defense and structure.

And since is he not a bad GM, I think it's reasonable to assume that we are not gonna hire Crawford. I'm still a big fan of Hartley, but would pass for a trotz, Hitchcock kinda coach in a second. Crawford is not that guy.

During his six seasons in the NHL, Crawford would split time between Vancouver and their AHL affiliate, the Fredericton Express. As a result of constantly flying between the two cities, which are over 5,000 kilometers apart, he earned the nickname "747",[2] though most contemporary Canucks fans know him as "Crow", a nickname coined during his tenure as a head coach with the team.
|
Good ole "747" as per Wiki.

Hartley once took Crawford's job, would be funny if he returns the favour. I don/t want either. Another fun fact, both won a cup with Avs and since have been mediocre coaches.

I look at it another way, Crawford primed guys like Sakic, Forsberg to win and Hartley continued the success. Let's hope Hartley gets to do the same with Matthews.

Both good (you can argue being good amongst the best is truly only mediocre) but not terrible and those Avalanche lineups featured a solid core of 3 HOF players in Sakic, Roy, Forsberg and a very solid supporting cast with dependable players like Foote, Yelle, Miller and really the coach only had to steer the ship and not screw up to have success with this group as they didn't need teaching just a steady hand. At the end of the day they are both good coaches but not great coaches and most good coaches aren't good enough to make hay with an average to mediocre roster.

He will come to Calgary to coach the Flames, when Hartley bolts to Montreal to coach the Habs. It will be great as he will also now be coaching Matthews in Calgary.
