I'd imagine they'd want to keep the Esso brand for the gas stations, but rebrand the attached stores to 7-11s

Still seems like quite a bit to me, but I really have no idea how the economics of running as gas station/c-store are. Better than I thought, apparently.

This is the first thing I thought when I saw the numbers too. I've had a few clients who had gas stations as side business ventures and they sure didn't make a lot of money off the gas sales. Concession purchases were okay, but no way each station was worth anything close to $5.6MM.
Granted these were smaller town locations, so maybe the comparison isn't perfect, but still seems like way too much.

Imperial has been musing about this for a while. Makes sense to focus on the production and refining business vs retail.
My guess is alot of that price is the real estate/location, the cost of the building, and current inventory. It shouldnt be that much of a problem for consumers as I find it hard to believe that 1/10 outside of the oil business new that Esso was associated with Imperial Oil. Probably one of the reasons they are branded Esso vs Imperial.
Shell, Petro Canada, and Husky dont have that luxury.

Does this mean that the current Tims/Esso is going to go away? That's my only concern because at this point I like the one-stop I can make on the way out of town to get gas and a coffee at the same time.

Petro-Canada got bought by Suncor, and they kept the Suncor name for the company, without changing the names on the gas stations. Seems to have worked out.

Petra-Canada remains its own brand under Suncor though, so this is a little different since the Esso brand is obviously separate. As stated earlier though, they'll probably just rebrand the inside stores.
Also, 7-Elevens are amazing in Japan as well.

Is there any chance they will be introducing sev bucks? In manitoba you would get a sev buck for every 30 liters filled at a sev/esso combo gas convenience store. It usually meant a free hot dog or slurpee. If it happens, I'll make sure to go out of my way to find a sev gas station.
