So in a 35 zone you're bookin' along at 55-60? And that's not fast enough that law enforcement is going to pull you over? 25-30 mph and that's not going to get their attention?
No offense dude but you are not getting much sympathy from me. 5 years driving experience is quite frankly squat.

It's very possible to exceed speed limits and still be a safe driver. Look at Nascar and Indy, those guys drive upwards of 200mph sometimes and seldom crash.

You're comparing yourself on public roads to professional drivers on closed curcuits?

I've been driving for about 5 years now and I have enough experience and I believe 60 is my comfortable niche.

Who knows why they invented speed limits, when we could all just take 5 years to find our niche.

Besides that, I have great vision and hearing, so it's not like anything like that is impairing my judgement or ability to operate a car, albeit at "illegal" speeds.#

Your ears and eyes may be fine, but I'd be worried about what's in between.
I hope you don't learn the hard way, by killing yourself or someone else. [/b][/quote]
You're taking this way out of context.
Almost everyone one of my friends has been in at least one accident, or has been given at least one ticket. I'm sure you could go find the same results if you surveyed teenagers in your area. I believe 5 years without an accident on my record or being pulled over for any traffic violation is enough experience to prove I can handle the road and not be a moron. If you disagree that's fine because it's your own opinion, but please don't try to act like 5 years isn't good enough for me. It might not be enough time for you to learn how to drive flawlessly, some people learn slower, that's fine, but I'm telling you it's enough for me.
As for the comparision of professional drivers, again you just missed the point by a mile. I know I'm not a professional, but it's not very hard to steer a car between to lines on a highway at 60mph (my comfortable speed). And although yes it is a closed track, it's not like they are driving with one car though, they're driving bumper to bumper with 40 other cards, much like rush hour traffic, so I think the comparison is pretty fair.
Lastly, the fact that you'd say I hope I don't learn the hard way by killing myself or someone else shows just how little you pay attention. You really think I would be exceeding speed limits if I was going to endanger my own life, and dozens of others? Of course not. I guess it's hard to take my word for it, but I mean it when I say I'm a cautious and great driver. My eyes are always on the road, as they should be, and I'm always anticipating what the other cards and drivers are going to do. I'm able to navigate my way through traffic without cutting anyone off.
@JiriHrdina: You'd think that would be enough to pull me over, but cops don't frequent that road very often, so I take the gamble. I've been lucky never to have been caught yet, knock on wood. If I ever to get pulled over there, I'll just bite the bullet and pay the ticket. I would also say to the officier when he asked if I knew how fast I'd going, I'd say "Yes, I chose to go 60 because the speed limit here is ridiuclously low." That's all. If you don't know me well enough, you do now, and that is that I'm a pretty straight shooter, I tell it like it is.

5 freakin' years driving and you act like God, all knowing, all wise? You CHOOSE to go at YOUR comfortable speed?
You sir, are a driving idiot of the worst kind. Driving isn't a right that you can play with like your own toy. It is a PRIVILEGE!

So your almighty power to anticipate everything that MIGHT happen is the reason that you should be allowed to bob and weave through traffic at almost double the posted limit? What about people that don't anticipate your moronic actions?
And you are ticked at someone else for being rude?
Are you serious?
You are a newbie punk to the roads and a reason that most kids like you (<25) have such laughably high insurance rates, REGARDLESS of your driving record. YOU ARE A RISK.
I have been driving since before you were even born you little puke. I have seen countless cases of jerks like yourself that I could only dream of pulling over and kicking the second to last breath out of...
If you don't like the posted limit, take it to city hall and petition to have it changed. Otherwise, STFU. And pray photo radar isn't implemented there. In the short time between it going in, and your first receipt of a ticket, it sounds like you would be looking at big bucks for your choices.

Wow, is it too much to have an opinion and post it on a message board now without fear of being flamed? Just because you've been driving since before I was born gives you no right to think you're somehow a better driver than I am, and it certainly doesn't give you the right to call me a punk, puke, and say that you'd like to pull me over and beat the crap outta me. If you don't like what I'm saying, I have no problem with you discussing it in a rational manner, but coming in here and flaming me for my own opinion really isn't nice etiquette.
Now, let's pick apart what you said.

I realize it's a priviledge, and I respect that. I believe 5 years is a good duration to go without an accident or ticket, especially it being my first five years. I mean, if I was 35 and between age 30-35 I didn't get a ticket, I wouldn't be necessarily happy, because I had been driving for much longer. But this being my first 5 years of driving and I am still incident free, I think I should be proud of myself.

Uh, yes, that is the reason. If I can anticipate a car coming up behind my fast and I want to move over into that lane, of course I'm not gonna move over until he passes. When I'm "weaving in and out of traffic" I am not doing it in an *******-ish manner cuttng people off left and right. I use my turn signals and I give the proper space. Who the hell are you to say I'm a wreckless driver just because I say I go over the speed limits a bit?

Eventually I will petition to have the limits raised in certain areas, but until I get my lazy self to take some action, I will contiue to drive at a rate I think is safe. I don't know why you can't just believe me when I say I am going this fast in areas where I wouldn't be in congested traffic putting lives in danger. If I'm in bumper to bumper traffic of course I'm not going to go flying by anyone, because, well, I wouldn't be able to. My point is, if you lived by me and I took you to some of these roads where I claim I speed over the limits, you would probably agree at least to some extent that the posted limits are a bit ridiculous.
You sir, are the arrogant and ignorant type of person who I'd like to pull over and bash their skull in with a bat because they think they can judge and belittle everyone. Next time please refrain from bashing and/or flaming me simply because you disagree with something I say. Thanks for trying though, E for Effort!

Ditto on the E for your driving.
Get a life young one. Grow up. Grow old. I HOPE you don't make that one mistake where you THOUGHT you could anticipate everything.
I have had numerous friends over the years that had your same attitude. Sereral are now pushing up daisies, along with several innocent parties. YOUR choice. I have BEEN THERE and DONE THAT. You aren't the first one, and you won't be the last.
If you can't get THAT, then you certainly won't get that I am NOT flaming you. I am voicing MY opinion, with many, many more years behind me than your sorry ass has.
I am done with this. Drive yourself off a cliff for all I care.

I'm just curious as to why you think it would be a good idea to lie to the cops to get this guys car impounded.
What happens when the cops come calling and asking you where you saw the guys car parked illegally? What if the guy can prove he was no where near where you said it was? Oh, now you're being charged with filing a false police report. Man that's a stupid idea.
Serioulsy if you're gonna get this passed off about one road incident you need to chill out, or you're gonna drive yourself bonkers.
As for the "I'm a save driver", yeah, strange how everyone is a safe driver untill they have a crash. Just because you think you can navigate the streets at 50-60 instead of 35, doesn't mean everyone else can, and how they react to you speeding can be very unsafe.
Also, I find it very ironic that you've said that you're a safe driver because partially because you've never gotten a ticket, but then admit that you speed all the time. So if you get that ticket are you now a bad driver?

Also, I like how you called Shawnski arrogan and ignorant all the while claiming to know more about what are safe and appropriate speed limits for certain areas, than the city planners and engineers who have made a career out of knowing such things.
Speed limits are there for a reason, and they aren't always obvious, but they aren't arbitrary, trust me, as I do have a friend who has worked on that type of thing.
But hey, let us know how the whole lying to the cops, and fixing problems for which you have no training or background thing goes.

@Shawnski: I have 0 respect for you because you came in here bashing me from the start instead of talking nicely. There are plenty of other people in here who don't agree with how I drive, and they said so in a respectful way.
Just because you're older doesn't mean you're wiser. I like how you call me young one too, that's classy. It's real sad that you only look at one's age and automatically look down upon them.
@Bring_Back_Shantz: Yes, if I get a ticket anytime soon I would feel like a bad driver, and at that point I would probably give up speeding for a long while. Also, why for some reason do you think I'd give the cops my name? If it took that to get the car impounded, I wouldn't do it. I'm not that stupid. I would do it from an anonymous tip, like I said before, from a pay phone or something.

I'm sure your friend is very qualified for his job, but it's not exactly rocket science to determine the appropriate speed limit on a given street. You look at the amount of traffic at certain times of the day, the availabilty of turning lanes, as well as high-volume stores in the nearby area too. Is it an interstate? Highway? Rural road? etc...

I don't like to dog pile on top of someone in a thread but I can't keep quiet about this...
I don't understand your logic here at all
If you speed and don't get a ticket you are a good driver... but if you speed and get caught you feel you are a bad driver????? what difference does getting caught make .. you are performing the same action !
by using that rationale
do you think a murder is only a bad person if he gets caught murdering???
I know they are two totally seperate things but the logic you are using in your statment suggests that you would only feel bad about breaking the law if you got caught doing it
