Russell is a champ don't care what the haters say. Good luck! Could see Texas being a long term fit for him given his history in AB.

We got Russell for cheap, he provided good value at a time when we really needed some D-men. Now he's being traded to a solid cup contending team, and his time here should earn him a nice new contract in the summer. Flames get a good return on the trade.
Pretty much pure win-win.

Loved when I saw what we got in Kris when we acquired him from St. Louis, because I believed it was a huge addition by subtraction getting rid of the underwhelming play of Jay Bouwmeester. Russell was so engaged and balls to the wall in comparison. Loved it.
What a warrior Russell was for the Flames. You know he played through injuries that would keep lesser men off the ice. He was always willing to play, it was the doctors and coaching staff that would have to tell him he wasn't.
Thanks Kris, you WILL be missed. Good luck to you in Dallas!

Advanced stats be damned. Russell was incredibly underrated for the most part and is a legit top 4 D. Played hard every game and came up huge last season when Gio went down. I was expecting him to be the 6th guy when he came over. But he ended up being a solid top 4 guy.
Glad to see him go, and hopefully he can prove the stats crowd wrong by helping the Stars to the 3rd round.

I will always love his work ethic and what he brought as a person. He just never quit on a play. Sadly sometimes chasing the opposition around is the same. Best of luck to you in Dallas!

Russel will not be replaced easily.
still cannot even fathom the thought that we almost signed Ference over him .
Glad he was a Flame

That being said, solid return by the flames.

Are you actually saying that Hudler and Russell >> Frolik and Hamilton.
In the off season the Flames spent huge $ and committed to long terms that pushed Russell and Hudler out of the long term plans

I saw Russell as being a real glue guy with the group, much like Ference was at a similar age with the Flames. The Flames easily replaced Ference's on ice play but seemingly had nothing but problems with the group of players off the ice after he left.
I hope the Flames can replace Russells off ice intangibles quicker this go round. He was a good soldier and a guy who helped get a better culture in place.

As I said in the game story I'm looking forward to seeing the effect of changing teams on his underlying numbers. I'm guessing they improve.
Style of play, and quality of linemates has to have an effect on these things.
Either way his mention to Lou the other day certainly suggests he knows, and was bugged by it.
As I said I found some of the disdain for Russell on twitter yesterday almost sickening.
Good luck Kris, prove them all wrong!

Are you pointing at Hamilton as being hard to play with? You expect that Oduya and/or Demers and/or Jordie Benn are going to be better to play with than Hamilton?

Hamilton is going to be a problem on this team. Unless the Flames can find a player like Kris who will play with him and put up with him.

Forwards are on the ice with defensemen as well. The Stars forward group is miles ahead of the Flames.
