I prefer to think of it as I get paid an extra 1/4 day for the other 3 years.

Hey, whatever keeps you from falling into the whirlpool of soul sucking depression that comes from realizing you are working a day for free. Ignorance is bliss, as they say! Hrmm, maybe I can stretch this coffee break all the way until 5:00....

I have a friend who is born on Feb 29. he is turning 32 today, but he still acts like an 8-year old. I guess that's appropriate for his age...

He should be acting like a 7 year old.

Look on the bright side, it's like you get free bus rides today if you bought a Feb. pass.

If you get paid every two weeks (instead of twice a month) then this doesn't matter.

I'm not sure I buy that logic. If your salary is $50 000 a year, you divide that by 365(ignore all the complicated days off) So now you are dividing by 366, so you are working that extra day for the same yearly salary.

Sorry for raining on everyone's pity party, but this leap year we get an extra Sunday, so we work the same as any normal non-leap year.

Do you also complain when buildings put the 13th floor in?

The fact that there is so much confusion, and everyone seams to have a different answer for why we aren't getting screwed leads me to believe we are getting screwed. I'm un-trusting that way. "No no, you are misunderstanding. See, you get an extra Saturday because that's how it works! Ignore the fact you are working on a Monday, that's irrelevant!" Sounds like a scam to me.

I'm suspicious, not superstitious. Give me a 13th floor over a Feb 29th work day. Hell, I'll take a Friday the 13th, too, because Fridays are awesome. You can keep your 29th's though.

Not counting stat holidays, there are exactly 261 weekdays (Monday-Friday) in 2016. If this weren't a leap year, there would also be 261 weekdays. The difference this year, compared to a non-leap year, is that you work an extra day in February. However, you also work an extra day in May and August. To make up for that, you get an extra day off in April, July and December. The other six months remain identical.

The last part is that there is an extra day in 2016 because it's a leap year. Where does this day go? The leap year was kind enough to provide you with another weekend day. Instead of complaining you have to work another day, which you don't, you should be praising the leap year for the extra day off. Maybe your salary should be decreased, since you are getting more time off.

That's not how it works though. If you refer to my first post, you can see how it works over your working career. So we may have got what you call an "extra" weekend day, but we don't becuase it just advances the Monday a day closer. You can't look at a single year in isolation. Sure, THIS year it looks like we got an extra day off, but that's just to trick you into ignoring the rest of the equation. Pope Gregory XIII was a willy fella, don't let him trick you.

In 2017 there are only 260 weekdays

Instead of adding one day every 4 years, why don't we skip one year every 365 years? The math works out the same and problem solved.

The seasons would get pretty messed up. Imagine sitting on a patio in February with 15°C weather! The mind boggles!

I'm guessing you are outraged that you get an extra day of car insurance, rent, cable, phone.

I get that the point of this thread is faux outrage, and is a mild troll job, but the holes in your story are many and large.
