I don't know where the problem is. The Flames have traded a top forward and the media have obviously asked them about it, and Treliving has decided to give a short statement. You know, pretty standard stuff.

And traditionally Brad does an availability prior to the trade deadline or the draft, and then one afterwards.

Treliving says there was a risk the return for Hudler might go down closer to the deadline, so decided to pull the trigger today. #Flames

Welcome to the sports media business. He either does a PC and some media face to face or he spends the weekend fielding questions at random times from reporters. Either way he has to do this. Can't see what you're so upset about...

After Feaster got ripped to shreds over his willingness to discuss matters with the press, I think this is a very valid comment to make. Why can Treliving address me media during a the middle of an event, but other GMs are idiots for doing so? Treliving should address the media when the whole deadline is done and discuss Flames moves as a whole. Its not like this was an earth shattering move or anything. Just want some consistency in expectations and behaviors.

The problem wasn't the # of press conferences Feaster had but instead how candid he was.

This isn't the "middle of an event." This is a game day where we traded one of our top line wingers. Therefore he'll address it.

Don't worry, he'll do that as well.

Trading arguably our top line RW is pretty huge news in a Canadian hockey market actually. Not sure how you can't see that. Some sort of blindness there.

LOL, I was waiting for you to bring up the Feaster comparison. For me Feaster was trying to sell us a bill of goods whereas Treliving speaks to us as educated fans.
You also need to remember the Darryl days where he gave out as little as possible, even telling outright lies (amusing as hell) that made a lot of media enemies. Treliving is obligated to some extent to keep the media and fans in the know. It's part of the job and if he ignores it you'll see the media hatchets come out.

As a fan, I WANT to hear from Treliving and hear him break down the Hudler trade and his perspective on the trade market prior to the deadline. That's why sports networks and radio do the wall-to-wall coverage this time of year: fans are watching/listening. It's exciting. Press conferences aren't for media in isolation. Only holding one newser after the deadline doesn't cut it.

Trevy is pretty good at saying nothing. I know he's a smart guy when he's able to speak openly about it, but when he's holding back he sounds dumb. He just repeated himself about how Hudler was a good hockey player and how Russell is a good player.

Uh oh, there's Brad "I love the spot light" Treliving hogging all the airwaves again with his pompous blow-hard-iness during the intermission of the Flames game.
I bet he asked the media to interview him. Amirite?

Treliving after first intermission on HNIC - areas of focus for the team are right wing, getting heavier to play against etc. Said Johnny and Mony contracts will wait until after trade deadline "until we get further into the spring". Interesting he didn't mention net as a specific need, means we likely get a goaltender by Monday ( admission by omission).

I am pretty sure Brad Treliving is a smart guy and would never compromise future deals or trades in the works for an obligated media interview on what is now pass tense.

I thought he was smart with the CBC intermission interview. He basically said you set a price that you're comfortable with and then execute once someone meets that price.
Translation "First person to give me a first rounder gets Russell. Don't wait until some other team is that first team to do it"

I like a GM that gives me all the information he can. Tell me everything that is going on. Tell me about player evaluations, about salary structure, whatever it is. I trust the GM is smart enough not to compromise himself with information he gives in the media.
I think fans who feel the GM is being a blowhard or something are maybe a bit insecure themselves. Would you rather another interview from a "hockey expert" who can speculate or from the guys who are involved in the actual decisions?
