Good to see the Oilers get an OTL. May they get OTLs the rest of the season.

Sabres win 3-1 over the Sharks. Flames now slip to 28th overall.

Buffalo is a half decent looking team now with Lehner back and the continued maturation of some of their young players (Reinhart, Eichel, Ristolainen, etc). Certainly possible that they could outpace us the rest of the way.

They're going to turn the corner as early as next season IMO. Tim Murray aka Dwight Schrute has got that rebuild going at light speed compared to the Oilers

They did their rebuild with D and Centres, pretty much like teams have been saying for the last ten years. Eventually the Oilers will catch on.

Yep -- and it allows this coming draft to be a win-no-matter-what situation. Get lucky and win the lotto? Laugh away with Matthews. Otherwise pick one of these giant great wingers to slot in with O'Reilly or Eichel (Puljujarvi, Laine, Tkachuk) or Chychrun to take some pressure off Risto. Any way it falls, we get kind of the 'last piece of the puzzle', hopefully.

I do not think many knew about the Sabres mastery on the Sharks.

"Zach Bogosian scored on a double ricochet with 7:24 remaining in regulation and the Sabres rallied beat the Sharks for the ninth time in 10 meetings...to extend their hex over the San Jose Sharks.

Bogosian's shot from the point deflected off a pair of Sharks on the way to the net. First it hit Logan Couture's glove, then it deflected off Tomas Hertl's left skate, changed directions and went over Jones' shoulder for the tiebreaking goal."

Didn't they beat the sharks by 4 or 5 goals twice last year? Or maybe 2 years ago?

Here's the Rakell goal.

Poor Draisaitl, 2 broken ankles is a bad way to go out.

Nope, they did beat them 4-1 and that was 2 years ago. The Sabres did beat them 7-1 but, that was 8 years ago. It's a weird stat, the Sabres are 23-8-4 all time over the Sharks. http://mcubed.net/nhl/sj/buf.shtml

When it looked like the oilers might challenge it did look offside from the Birdseye view. I'd be interested to see it again. Oil probably got a call from management to not challenge it.
