Larf. I love these "you guys are a bunch of hicks" comments coming from Edmonton.

Newsflash -- if we are in the boonies, you guys are in the backwoods. Gateway to the North indeed.
No kidding.

I went to Edmonton for the 1st time in my life last Canada Day. It's like a gigantic live action Jerry Springer show up there. If you want to see the dark underside of humanity, ride public transit in "E-town". There's no class there.

Except for Whyte Ave. That was more like watching Snoop Dogg's 'Girls Gone Wild' videos, but with no women. Just drunken frat boys.

I pledge to never enter that cess pit ever again!

The Saddledump??
Man if you're gonna make fun of the arena you should probably think of two things:
1) that's pretty sad, probalby something like this
Oil fan: "We have the best defenceman"
Flames Fan: "That's great, we have by far the best overall defence"
OF: "We have Mike Pecca"
FF: "That's great, we have a guy named Jarome Iginla. By the way, how's that Smyth sighing going"
OF: "We got Jussi back"
FF: "Ahem..cough...Kipper?"
OF: "Oh yeah, well the saddledome is stupid"

2) If you're gonna bag on an arena, you should at least have a decnet one yourself.

I love all of the "Calgary is full of hicks" comments as well.
Oh well, I suppose if everyone in my hometown worked for people in my rival town, I'd try to make fun of them too.

Yeah, seriously.

As someone who grew up in Ontario, Manitoba, and Vancouver, I always stayed out of the Calgary/Edmonton municipal debates. I had been to Calgary lots, but never Edmonton. Now that I have been to Edmonton, I can see how funny it is when people from there bash Calgary.

Edmonton looks like it was a nice place about 50 years ago. Now it's the "Buffalo" of Canada. A city with its best years clearly behind them.

She probably drove down from Edmonton.

Anyone who has been to both cities knows the truth. Random pictures from the internet prove nothing.

Pretty sad when you're relying on a prank website to try and argue your point....since that picture wasn't taken at the Calgary Stampede, or in Calgary at all.

A question for Mr.Ciampa, how does it come along that a flames fan becomes an employee of the Oilers? just wondering how that one happened.
They actually approached me about potential employment near the end of the lockout. With a good portion of their staff working with the Edmonton Road Runners, they were familiar with the work I'd done in Manitoba as well.

Also, my family has lived in St. Albert since 1996 and I worked for the St. Albert Saints (AJHL) from 99 to 2002 prior to leaving for the AHL.

Where did it come from then? Your family's vacation to Sylvan Lake?

Calgary's just one big trailer park with office towers.

The result is the Edmonton Oilers Fanboni, a completely overhauled Zamboni that features seating for 8, a plasma screen television, a Playstation 2 with 8 game controllers, a monster stereo system, and more whistles than the entire NHL referee corps. It’s also ready to take to the streets of Edmonton and area.

Oh my god, that is the most pathetic thing I have ever seen!!! I've seen lots of the dummies "pimping their rides" down here, where we actually HAVE ghettos and black people, but I have never seen anything this weakassed. I laughed at the "brother" who pimped out his '90s Cavalier, complete with spinners and two tone metallic purple pain job, but a Zamboni? Get the fata out of here!

Hey, Edmonton is the closest thing to a ghetto you'll see in Canada, so let the ######s up there continue with their ebonics/moronics speak and their embracement of the gangsta lifestyle. People will continue to look and laugh at them and shake their heads in embarassment. Go Oylahz Go!

You're family reunion. Or at least the portion that they allowed to see the light of day.

She's the exception instead of the norm. Besides the Stampede is a world event, she could be from Austin, Texas or as FA said... Edmonton.

Office Towers

Ever seen them before? Or is it all refineries and concrete plants in Edmonton just like the last time I was there.

"Office Towers" as you put it mean head offices, large firms that sort of thing.

Even if it was real (which it isn't), I think it's funny that she would use the one place in Calgary where where you are least likely to run into a Calgarian.

It would be like using a picture from the Mall in Edmonton where most of the people are tourists. Of course, in Edmonton's case, it would be an upgrade.

Wow! I didn't realize there was really so much hate between Calgary and Edmonton. I knew there was animousity but I thought it was just a hockey thing.

Sheesh, anyone who ridicules another about where their from really needs to grow up, especially when it's comparing Edm and Cgy. There not exactly apples and oranges and are very similar in many ways.

it's one thing to scorn another about sports teams, thats what makes the rivalry great but it's another to do the same about a city only 2.5 hours away from you that really isnt that much different

As for thefanboni, its a great marketing gimick for the kids, who at 7 or 8 yrs old wouldnt want a ride on that during intermission on the ice. It's fantastic.

It's a different world up there. I used the Springer comparison because I saw and heard a lot of white mulleted guys talking like they were from S.Central L.A. when I was there. It reminded me of the Jerry Springer show. Of all my times in Calgary, I never saw that. I also saw an abnormally high number of pregnant teens on the bus.

The distance doesn't matter. Raleigh and Charlotte are about the same distance apart, but are different worlds. Chicago and Milwaukee, Montreal and Q. City, OKC and Dallas, NYC and Philly.... I'm sure you could find cultural differences in those relatively close cities.
