Glad to hear he's gonna have some stability in his life for the next few years....oh wait, it's Montreal. Never mind. Good for him though!

I sure would rather have him than a bunch of our current players. Habs gain, our loss.

I would've preferred Byron over Raymond, Bollig, and maybe Colborne and Granlund.
Losing him while having Raymond in the lineup is a little black mark on this management group IMO

Happy for Byron, good for him. This is a good signing by Montreal. I sure miss him here, but also would have been upset had Treliving signed him for 3 years.

I loved this guy's play and miss him. He had a big impact on our PK and we miss him there. Good special teams, fourth line guy.
Losing him for nothing was a mistake. Raymond should have been sent down at the start of the year to keep Byron, the better player.
Anyway its spilt milk. Not the difference between winning and losing a Cup but not good asset management by current regime.

"According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, teams have been calling the Canadiens about Byron, who was a pending unrestricted free agent. But Montreal wanted to keep him and offered him the new deal."

Way to capitalize on those assets Calgary!

Still can't believe this guy isn't a Flame.
Lost on waivers even.
I know, it's not like he's a star or anything, but he should still be part of this team IMO.

I still think Byron is a welcome depth player on any team. I think the Flames still miss him - both on the ice and in the locker room.
Happy he got some stability with his contract. He seems to continually work so hard each and every shift, and it is really great to see guys like that being rewarded.

Can someone who wasn't a fan of Byron's please explain why they didn't like his play? Because I'm usually pretty good at getting fans gripes with most players. But I just don't get the Byron dislike. Was it the breakaway fluffs last season? That's all I can think of, because everything else he did, he more than met what was asked of him.
He was a criminally underrated player on this team in the role he occupied, his replacements have been mostly terrible and we lost him for nothing. Yet some seem happy he's not here. I just don't get it?

I suspect its because he missed a lot of breakaways. Evidently they don't notice that the Flames don't get many breakaways anymore.
Was a bad move letting him on waivers. He's cheap and effective.

I wish we'd paid him that money.

While I agree, in BT's defence, Raymond and Byron were both put on waivers while Granlund was in Stockton. Colborne would have 100% been picked up and I can't recall what was the deal with Bollig at the time but I think he was one of our physical guys we couldn't let go of at the beginning of the season.

Byron waived put us at one player below roster max IIRC. It was a calculated risk to try and get some flexibility to allow Byron a good place in the minors to rehab his injuries and surgeries. We didn't have to waive him.
I honestly think if he was waived 24 hours earlier, he'd still be a Flame.
Anyways, good luck to Paul. I liked him. Congrats on getting a longer term contract.

To be fair to Treliving, Hartley and co, Byron did have a pretty crappy training camp after coming back from injury. Based on the preseason games I watched I wouldn't have had him making the team, guys like Hathaway and Grant looked better than Small Paul. So I know it sucks we lost him but he didn't really help his cause here with a crappy training camp.

Wow relax fellas. Nobody cared when he was waived, just because the Canadiens signed him doesn't mean we necessarily blew a chance on the guy. He was given his opportunities here, things seem to be working better in Montreal. Good for Paul, but this is not some sort of black mark on our management

Interesting, I thought we were at max because of Ortio and Jooris being on the roster as well. I don't understand why we would have placed him on waivers then?
I'm with you. I liked him and glad he found a place to play.

Maybe they were going to send him down to get his game back going? Like I said above, not sure he even made the team this year based on his crappy training camp.
