Interesting. Turbotax seems to have learned from their previous idiotic move to limit you to a small number of returns. Now they give you more than the average family can use.
$27 is the sale price, the MSRP is $35 per their website, not a huge difference. Looks like their support for stocks / bonds / investment / capital gains is a lot less at the Standard level unless you step up to their $70 "premier" version.

All of which is included in ufile for $20. Don't get me wrong, I find it a pretty bare bones program - the interview isn't as good as TT, but it gets the job done for a minimal price and I have a pretty involving return.

Turbo tax had a calculation error on my rental property depreciation a few years ago. They couldn't fix it, even after admitting it was wrong. I was pretty annoyed, as I was hours into my return by then.
Now I use studiotax. Free, correct, and easy to use.

studiotax, but my return is extremely easy. T4 and a few charity receipts, takes about half an hour

I've never had a problem with stocks or capital gains with the $30 version.

Man, Ufile re-did their webportal and it is soooo slow. They made everything big, like it is designed for a tablet. Looks like the new NHL.com page...ugh... and i keep getting this error:
Quote:
The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:01:00. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.

WTF? It worked fine before. Why do companies change stuff that works and make it suck?

Mine's easy - SimpleTax works great for me, takes 20 minutes.
Third year I've used the website and I donate $10 a year.
Had a very large RRSP contribution this year so I'm looking at a solid return! Yes!

Speaking of Tax Returns.
Any ideas on when you are supposed to get your T4's by? Isn't there a deadline?

Hey Locke,
Maybe this isn't the place to ask this, but I will.
If an individual uses an accountant to file their tax returns and there is an error, they are audited and fined (if that is the right word), who is that on? The the layman look to the accountant? Can they say, "Hey, I my accountant did up my return and I just signed it"?

It really depends on the error.
Ultimately everything falls on the taxpayer, thats why the taxpayer is required to sign it and why accountants have their clients sign waivers.
But thats also not great service either.
If the accountant was just making up deductions then thats fraud and a whole other thing entirely.
But if its a missed slip or something that happens all the time and the taxpayer was going to be on the hook for that money anyways but if its the accountant's fault then they can try and compensate the taxpayer for any penalties or interest by reducing future fees.
Things like that. So yeah, it really depends on what the error was.

Alas, I operate based on practicality. Also, I was a Flames fan and hockey fan long before I was an accountant.
