I had just assumed that the players wouldn't pocket the money. Then I watched the game and not a single person involved suggested that the winnings would go anywhere charitable. Am I the only one that thinks keeping the money is a bit selfish?
Kudos to Daniel.
Nope you're not the only one. I thought for sure it would be donated. I was really surprised it wasn't. What's an extra 90000 to most of these guys? They've all either made millions/or are going to make millions.
That being said...I hate the Canucks, but the Sedins are class acts. Genuinely good people. Love that he did this.
When it comes to on-ice play I dont make distinctions of 'classy' or un-classy just what I personally like or dislike. I'm not the judge of who is or is not 'classy' as its a subjective designation.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

I dunno, I don't begrudge any players for keeping it, even when they're already earning their NHL salary. They earned it, it's their right to do whatever they want with it. It's easy giving away other people's money.

That's a lot of extra dough regardless of career earnings. I don't think there's any ethical reason to give that away. Gaudreau is making what, 1/3 of lies of what the Sedins are? It's super classy. Incredibly classy. I doubt anyone here in the same circumstance would donate it.

That's a cop out if I ever saw one. But whatever, if the Sedins are not classy because of soft falls and screens, then it's hard to imagine anyone in the league being classy.

No, there's no ethical reason obligating them to donate, but I'm still surprised. I should clarify - I didn't think it was selfish not to donate, but I was still really surprised that it didn't happen, particularly the ones not on ELCs (and not named John Scott :P).
The Sedin's damaged their on-ice reputation a bit with the diving that permeated throughout the Canucks lineup a few years ago. They didn't do that a lot pre-Vigneault or post-Vigeault though, so I think a lot of that was doing what the coach/management wanted. They also got some stink on them from being around Keslef, Bieksa and the Canuck fan base, but that wasn't really their fault either.
Off ice, they are great ambassadors for the sport. Overall, I have a lot of respect for them. Too bad for them they spent their whole careers in Vancouver.

Lol. You're on a weird little mission, questioning a person's opinion. It offends you that Locke thinks that diving is unclassy? Well, I do too. Lots of people can't stand that. And the Canucks were known for it for a long time. Sedins may not have been the biggest culprits on the team, but they sure did go down easy a lot.
Sooo, is that it now? Can you drop it and let this thread get back to being a positive one? Need a kleenex?

They've always done this stuff. Before they won their scoring titles and made the big bucks, they donated $1,500,000 to the BC Children's hospital and they didn't even want to take credit:
In 2010, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, and their wives, Marinette and Johanna, donated $1.5 million to help build the new B.C. Children's Hospital.
What much of the public did not know, and which made the nature of their donation all the more remarkable, was this: Their donation was originally anonymous. It was only after persistent pleading by the hospital's fundraisers that the Sedins agreed to let the foundation make it public.

8 people according to the Canucks website. With today's exchange rate it would be roughly $15k CAD per person assuming he gave an equal share to all 8 people
I've never really understood the Sedin hate, even with the rivalry. Sure they are very much guilty of diving but atleast they were never scummy like Burrows, Kesler, Bieksa, etc. are
They are just really good guys, and as much as I don't like to admit it about rival players, watching them play together is almost always pure magic

They continue to display the class they always have shown.
