Maybe I need to put my Flames goggles back on, because that's the most boring articles I've read in the Player's Tribune yet. Nothing wrong with the article, just not the usual impact or substance I'm used to in that publication.

Found it boring myself. Couple good quotes, but overall boring.

And johnny is my favourite player.

Missed opportunities for more details or humorous insights. Pretty generic.

He's a hockey player, not a writer.

Part of the trouble is that we have all heard Johnny talk and this article doesn't sound much like him. So the ghost-writing is obvious. It might be for other players too, but we don't know them well enough to tell.

Maybe add a bunch of "you know"s

These Ghost Writers have generally done a good job of echoing their voices though. Case in point - I dare you to read this without a Russian accent in your head lol:

I'm guessing Johnny didn't sound too different than the article during his interview.

He has to put that Communications major to work at some point. I wonder if he can get course credit for it? Get him one step closer to that degree.

It's probably just me, but I've heard him speak a lot, including some fairly lengthy interviews, and this just doesn't sound like him to me.

I think it's cool that it was Datsyuk of all guys who rocked him like that.

Not a great read. Not bad. Part of me thinks this will be kind of disappointing to Flames fans because we have followed Johnny and been learning about him for years. This might be a good read for fans of other teams who don't have the same sort of knowledge about Johnny.

A good honest article. I like the way Johnny is trying to be a beacon of hope for other smaller players in the game - and also his message to young players - have fun right now!

I think this is the crux of the problem. For hardcore Flames fans there isn't much in the way of new information in this article. We've heard all of those anecdotes before, so it doesn't have the same appeal to us as it would to people who haven't been following him as closely.

This is one my favourite lines in the article, and I think it sounds a lot like him.

I loved this part of the article. In some ways it resembles what Bobby Orr has a about learning to play the game

Quote:
I’ve played on plenty of teams and been to more practices than I can remember, but I learned how to play the game during those hours upon hours when I was laughing and goofing around on the ice. When you’re among friends, you don’t worry about screwing up when you’re trying out moves. But I think once you get those reps in and aren’t self-conscious about screwing up, the difficult parts of the game become second nature. The flow of things seems natural. And you get to figure out on your own what you love about hockey.
