He's effective when he doesn't let his stupid brain get in the way. Then he'll do something dumb and learn nothing from it.

Adding a guy with the size, strength and physicality of Lucic would be a huge boon to the Flames top 6. My only concern is are those attributes enough to compensate for his foot speed? Probably for a few more years but he'll be the type to fall out of the top 6 quicker than others as he gets older.

Sure, I'd love Lucic on the Flames. I don't think it's realistic.

He'd probably take a pay cut to stay in Manhattan Beach over coming to CGY for a more money. I would.

I'd definitely be open to signing Lucic but what kind of dollars is he going to want? I'm assuming 6+. Not sure we have the money to give him. Maybe if we could get rid of some of our dead weight contracts. Does he even hit the open market though? I have a feeling LA will re-sign him.

He will end up in LA of Vancouver and that's fine with me.

The guy is too much of a hot head, wasn't he just suspended for sucker punching a guy the other day. He's not really the kind of guy I'd want as part of the team moving forward.

Lucic? $6M+?

The guys is a 60 point player. At best, if you're lucky. Yeah he checks a lot of boxes in terms of our needs but I think he is a player on the decline, I dont want to be the team paying his retirement contract.

Loves it in LA, and LA loves him. Doubt he makes it to free agency.

IF he ever does, the Flames would have to sign him to a big premium I would think. He 'sort of' expressed interest in Vancouver (where he is from) already last season, did he not? I would think they would be the favorites for him if he ends up in free agency.

I also echo what many other posters have stated - would rather not have him on the team. Flames are what I would call a 'fast team' - Lucic doesn't fit that. Flames are also the most disciplined team in the league - again, Lucic does not fit that. I used to love Lucic, but now I just think he is a meathead. Extremely effective player in the right situation, I can't deny that, but a meathead just the same and someone I would rather not have on my favorite team.

Would love to see the Flames pick up Lucic or Okposo, but we'll probably end up with Ott or Versteeg

I'm sure if Treliving wanted to pick up Versteeg, Burke would step in to "advise" him not to.

I'm so on board for this. I've got his Bruin's Jersey in my closet. If he does sign here, I'm gonna be getting his jersey for sure.

No.

Lucic is way overrated and someone will sign him for far more money then he's worth (and more money then the Flames can afford with Monahan and Guadreau coming up for renewal this year and Bennett coming up next year).

Lucic will get 7M with term from some stupid team and that's waaaaay too much. I'd love to have Lucic, but not at the cost it'll take

I thought I heard the soul had a ton of room freeing up this summer. We all know Chiarelli the guy can't manage a cap long term at all. He also talks about building a big tough team like Boston. Why not go after the piste child of that team and go for Lucic. Lucic on the one hand has a lot of money and a chance to play with McDavid as his incentive. Also the past relationship with the GM could help?

As for Van Lucic has already expressed his desire to play there if he gets the chance

If the Flames take a run at him, you'd know Burke was a big reason why. I wouldn't want him for more than 5M though. He's having a great year under Sutter and he has seemingly already made it known he wants to go to Vancouver.

Lucic is gritty, tough, tough to remove from the puck and not afraid to throw down. He would be the guy stepping in for any cheap shots on Gaudreau, Bennett, ect. - we've been lacking that kind of play for a few years now.
Lucic gets alot of hate but I think his play style is sorely missing in the NHL. IMO he is the spark the league needs similar to the Roenicks, Chelios, ect. He may be a bit of a hothead but how is that not entertaining? I personally love the fire he brings. Eh?

I still remember when Dion was patrolling here in Calgary, Ference was trying to orchestrate a fight between him and Lucic. Back then it was like - Oh yeah!? Well good luck Lucic, Dion will pound your face in.
Hindsight is very humbling sometimes.

Would prefer if the Flames take a big run at Okposo ($6M?).

Sign Gaudreau and Monahan ($7M and $6M estimates). I'd also go after Antti Raanta.

Dump as many of Raymond, Bollig, Wideman, Engelland, and Smid if possible to make room.

To expand on that, hypothetically if we bought out Raymond and Wideman we'd be looking at:

2016-2017: $2.3M cap hits for Raymond and Wideman ($1.05M + $1.25M) instead of $8.4M

However that means the following season, 2017-2018 instead of having $0 dedicated towards those 2, $3.05M of our cap will be used on their buyouts.

We might be able to find a taker for Bollig and Engelland/Smid though. That'd be very helpful as well.

Qualifying Jooris takes him to $1.024M, and we could probably promote Kulak once more taking advantage of his $657k salary.

It's still an overall savings and I think that BT will find a taker for Wideman if not at this deadline then in the summer. He may have to retain salary but I think he'll find a taker on a few of our guys.
