That was a frustrating game. It seems we get out coached a lot what is Hartley thinking we have 4 pp and 3 of them generate no shots, so what do we change on the 5th pp nothing.... not a damn thing.

Sucks losing to teams whose fans would rather watch stinkin' football on their recliners than show up to their team's game.
We were really fragile and mistake prone in that one. Shaky goaltending too. Shades of October...

bad goal tending
bad start
bad special teams
dominated at times but.....broken record
David Jones picked a terrible time to take a penalty
Also that 4th goal was BS...Hiller's glove is clearly pushed

Funnily enough, we were worse against the Oilers.

Probably Bennett. Maybe as early as post-trade deadline or next year.
Gaudeau-Bennett-Ferland
????-Monahan-Frolik
Bouma-Backlund-????
????-Stajan/Grant-Jooris/Hathaway
That's how I see it looking in the future. Still a few slots to fill.

Dude, it's a playoff football game or a regular season hockey game for a poor team. What would you rather do?

If Ferland is our top line RW'er in the future, we're probably in trouble.

Rebuilding isn't a straight linear process. There are always ups and downs.
Right now the team is sorting out the important players from the ones that are just there. They will move the players in the second group and will replace them either internally with our prospects or externally through trade or free agency.
Just have to get through the season one day at a time until things can be sorted out.
Doesn't mean that it isn't frustrating.

No...I'm saying if you were a Carolinian. NFL is always going to be bigger than NHL down there, but especially so for a playoff game.

Effort was there until halfway through the the third. Had a lot of chances to tie it at 3 after pulling within 1.
But then fall apart. No confidence, just like the first 3 weeks of the season.
Part of the reason for low confidence, not having 1 decent PP out of 5, kills them. 1 for 5 and Flames have a good chance to win tonight.

Well unless he bludgeons Frolik to death he won't be our top RW ever. And IIRC there is another entry draft this year and maybe next.

This had to be one of Johnny's worst games. Really poor decisions all over the ice. Quite a few rushes and chances died from bad decision making.
Aside from that one nice deflection pass/shot from Hudler, Monahan didn't do much. Except to gift-wrap that 5th goal.
Overall horrible night for the top line which also spilled over to our abysmal powerplay.
I thought Colbourne and Backlund had pretty strong games and battle. Also Bennett - just never quits on the puck. Besides that the whole team was pretty garbage.

What message would that be exactly? This roster was good enough to make the playoffs last season. When powerplay and penalty killing are both 30th maybe Treliving should be sending a message about the coaches.

Really? With the way Monahan has played since being drafted, your basis comes down to one game? Lindholm has had a decent season, but I'd take Monahan 10 times out of 10.

I wouldn't try to think of it like that. Instead think of it in terms of complimenting play styles.
If you have a line with Gaudreau and Bennett on it, who do you want handling the puck most of the time? One of those two. So you want a guy who doesn't need to be handling the puck all the time. If you have the small and shifty Gaudreau then the best type of guy to have on his opposite wing is a big strong winger who can drive the net, draw defenders to him and tie them up, screen the goalie, and win board battles. That type of player will generate more room for Gaudreau. More room for Gaudreau equals more offence.
The ideal makeup of a killer line IMO is to pair a star offensive winger (Gaudreau) with a franchise centre (Bennett) and a power forward (Ferland).
I know some fans don't believe power forwards make as much of a difference as they do.
I mean if we draft Laine or Puljujarvi or Tkachuk then sure we can bump Ferland down to the 2nd line and look even better. But I put Ferland up on the #1 line because I believe power forwards make room for more skilled players and that Gaudreau with his size is best complimented by having such a winger opposite him. Doesn't mean Ferland is our 3rd best offensive player, it's just putting a complimentary player with stars.
