NHL worried about a tiny flame on a tiny players stick citing "safety", but allows fighting where the key is to hit the opponent in the head repeatedly.
Oh good god almighty.

And yet rock concerts let off crazy pyrotechnics. Also they let off big Flames in the Saddledome all the time
Both those events are highly regulated, controlled, insured, etc etc. Hockey player wanting to light his stick on fire hours before event probably isn't.
NHL said they might have allowed him with a bit more notice.
I say Johnny forgets that idea, and instead wears a Yoda mask, Jedi robes and illuminates his stick like a light saber. Then rigs the puck to break in half as he lobs it into the air and baseball swings it in half, and both halves go into the net!
Gaudreau talked about doing it at last years skills competition, but unfortunately he talked too much and it was nixed before he could. Should have just done it, better to ask for forgiveness than permission, that whole thing.
You are right, but I can't really blame him for that though. He hit the all-star game in his rookie year, he's young. It's smart for him to not to want to make waves. And shows he's an stand up guy. Makes sense that he'd be a little nervous about breaking any NHL rules.
EDIT: And the NHL thinking about the flaming stick probably had more to do with a burning stick possibly leaving debris on the ice than the actual fire.
