Sigh. When will they find a quality winger to play on this line? Such a waste to have guys like Jones and Ferland playing with the two top forwards. I guess this just goes to show that this team still has a ways to go in the quality and depth department.

Ferland or Jones aren't put on the first line to become scoring stars. They are there to provide some muscle and some room for the other two. If Ferland starts to score some, that's a bonus.

Of course it's his style of play that contributes to his injuries. When the main part of your game is to play rough, then I believe there is a higher risk that the opposing players will treat you the same.

But the top line is still pretty productive. I think the bigger priority is finding that long term guy to pair with Sam. Pairs are the key

haha, really guy? Sigh?

It's not like it's been 15 years trying to find a center for Iginla. Gaudreau and Monahan have been without a quality left winger since.. October when Hudler decided not to show up. It's not that bad, stop signing, take a deep breath.

Obviously it shows a lack of quality depth, the Flames don't have a top line right winger. Were you not aware of this?

First and foremost, Ferland has been fantastic on the first line. He wasn't just filler. He scored 54g in his last junior year, and remember, power forwards take time to develop. In 2002 Canucks fans were dying to get rid of Bertuzzi. Look what he turned into.

Second, since Ferland arrived in the NHL, how many fights has he engaged in. He is not fighting in the NHL regularly. Sure fighting has dropped, but that's not what Ferland has been looking for.

Third. We know of one Ferland concussion. We (the royal we) all suspected one in the playoffs and it turned out to be another (oblique?) injury. So far it seems like this isn't that.

To me it appears that the Flames want Ferly to be an offensive physical presence capable of playing on lines 1-4, but preferably lines 1-2. If he has to drop the gloves, so be it. It will be his choice.

The most promising thing about Ferland is that he uses his brain a lot more than most power forward developments. More than Bertuzzi, more than Kassian, and even more than Lucic. Ferland has some hockey sense. And good judgement.
