They aren't going to sit Wideman when he could be traded. It would drastically reduce his trade value.

Also a different theory on the Smid being scratched situation is maybe it's because Hartley wants to ease him back after his neck injury. Maybe that injury was worse than we know?

Just a thought cause I don't always understand why he's scratched either..

Im all for lighting a fire under Wideman, but that would be the only reaaon for him to be scratched. Would you trade for a Denis Wideman that's a healthy scratch?

Don't think so

Wideman is gonna coast to the trade deadline if the staff doesn't do something.

Sitting him for a game and being potentially rewarded for it with improved play from him and a boost in value would be worth the healthy scratch. Maybe people dont' rememebr what that did for him last time.

No one is trading for Wideman now anyways, so it's not like benching him will hurt is value.

Instead of hoping that he will become someone he's not, how about we just keep hoping he continues to improve?

Cowen is pretty close to a salary dump according to Ottawa's fanbase. Even with the salary difference, Wideman at least holds equal value.

Realistically Wideman will have more value next deadline. I think the GM and coach know that. Pretty sure Hartley's hoping he catches fire like Ramo did. A good Wideman actually helps the team.
