You'd have to be a tough dude to KO McGrats like that. I mean McGrats was the last of the best goons in the NHL!

That was hard to watch!

Can't believe those ###### bag fans cheered. Someone ####### in the stands could be heard saying "Goodnight!"

Fighting has no part in the game. As soon as it's phased out (ie/ game misconduct for even dropping your gloves) the better the game will be.

I used to understand it had a purpose (after dirty plays etc) but it's not even worth it.

To me, it appears Ern wasn't taking him too serious...he left his chin up to get tagged...does the other guy fight much?

Maggio wins and loses some. He lost to the guy McGrattan beat but his name slips my mind. Bollig had a preseason fight against him. Yevenko had a good tussle with him in the AHL.

McGrattan tends to leaves his chin out and as good as he has been I always am afraid because many times he missed being hit hard by a hair.

There is a lot of tough guys in the AHL and NHL. In my opinion if you are a half decent fighter you can luckily clip anyone in the right spot on the chin and knock them out.

That is hard to watch. The ice hit likely did the most damage. I too hope Big Ern retires. With his popularity in Calgary I can't imagine it would be too hard for him to find a decent job. Hopefully no long term issues for him.

Watching that I am reminded of the movie The Wrestler. I hope he saved enough and has pension to chill out, although it maybe all he knows and can't leave it.

I too hope he walks away and can make peace with his new life. He seems like a good guy, his life shouldn't end in a scenario like that.

Its nomal for the crowd to erupt initially when a guy gets ko'd, that is to be expected but to carry on when the player is obviously in trouble is just lowlife behavior. Hope Grats is realed from the hospital soon and fully recovers.
