So they can't bury him in the minors and ruin his career like they have done with their other 'star' goalies.

Fair value for both sides.
I like it a lot. Good enough goalie to keep them out of the top 4 or 5 picks once mcjesus is back but not elite and already at his peak or past it athletically at 28/29. Good news for flames fans imo

Pretty good deal. He's played pretty good and he's better than the three Flames goaltenders.

We've seen this game before. Goalie has a great game then signed shortly after. Although its not a horrible contract im still skeptical if Talbot is a true starter. He reminds me a bit of Ramo.

Yes, they're in last in the West - but ask yourself where we would be if Gaudreau had been out since late October?

Get away from the injuries as an excuse garbage. First of all, the Oilers have been better points wise with McDavid out.
Second of all, the injuries are a story because of a strong lack of organizational depth by the Oilers thanks to a decade of disaster at the draft table.
Every team has injuries, where would have the Flames been if Brodie hadn't gone down, I'd say that his impact was felt much greater then the savior.
And the Oilers are on track for about 8 points of improvement over last year, that's not an improvement at all if your going to make an argument of improvement.

Hmm...I was hoping they'd be dumb and sign him for 5+ years. 3 years for a goalie is about max I'd ever do. Based off what Ramo got this year, it seems like a fairly reasonable amount to be a bottom 1/3 starting goalie. Worse part though - it's one less guy for us to target this summer...

Good for Talbot. While he's had a small sample size, you have to think his agent and him looked at the trend that seems to happen to goaltenders who play for the oilers (they either leave for greener pastures, or are out of the NHL) and pressed real hard for this kind of money. To me the numbers he has put up are pretty remarkable considering who playing in front of him.
Good on him for cashing in.

I still like Talbot, was hoping he'd go elsewhere after this year.
Oh well.

Roloson got a similar deal after he helped get the Oilers to the Stanley Cup finals.
Now you only need to beat us in a shootout in January.

This was pretty much my first thought, there is some real contract risk in this for an Oilers team that's already exposed to allot of contract risk.
But they really need this to be a big contract win for them, so I understand why they did this and could see this working out for them. (hopefully it doesn't work out and this time next year they are looking for a new starter, seems like a coin flip to me)

I'm just surprised we haven't heard of extensions for Mark Fayne and Teddy Purcell yet.

Well, better than 'worst' isnt exactly a high bar.
Trending in the 'right direction' is pretty much the only way to go until the league adds a few more teams so the Oilers could be lower than 14th in the West.

They're a team with not 1, not 2 but 3 other 1st overall picks as well as a 3rd overall pick and 7th overall pick in just recent drafts.
So no they don't get a "Mcdavid is injured" out of jail card.
Flames are 26th in the league with Gaudreau, they might plummet all the way to 29th if Gaudreau was injured long-term. 30th reserved for Oilers.

Single handily stole that game in the first period. Should have been 4-0 after one.

Good deal for the Oilers. He's stolen games for them this year. I'd take him on the flames for that contract, maybe without the no trade tho.

Because the next move would be the AHL and riding the bus.

Boy, if they let Anders Nilsson walk at the end of the year I really hope the Flames go after him. I really like Nilsson's game.
I feel like this Talbot signing makes Nilsson expendable.
