Honestly, why isn't this guy in the HHOF???
He has the stats. He has won championships - SC, MC, OG. He has the "small guy makes big" story. He did hold franchise records for a time. I like to believe he is trying to make good on a hard personal past, but come on....he cannot be the only player, HHOFers included, who said or did stupid things in their time. Hull's mouth didn't keep him out; is Roenick's mouth the problem there?
Fleury by far is more deserving than the big lomox.

He was the only reason I paid for my season tickets in the 90's. I recall he took a home town discount for about 4 years, and IMO played a big part in keeping the Flames in Calgary.
Although his story is not one to emulate, I believe his overall contribution to NHL hockey in Calgary should not go unrewarded.

It'll be funny when fans 20 years from now look at Gaudreau's first goals and laugh at how bad the defencemen were in 2015.

For sure, Fleury was beloved in Calgary during his time here. I worked at Bonavista Safeway and Fleury would come in almost every Sunday morning (driving his convertible) at crack of dawn to get groceries. I do remember there was an old man mafia that would conveniently camp out at the tables in the mall to oggle him when he came in. Every Sunday was Theo and the old men waiting to go "There he is", "wow what a player", "Best in the NHL I tell ya".
It was super old school Calgary. A bunch of old hockey fan boys in awe but too afraid to say anything past "Hi Theo!". Cool story bra, but will never forget that. That and he was always super nice when he came in. He's had his problems, but I always really liked the guy.

Now that Housley has made it. He is my new number one overlooked HHOF candidate. My fav player growing up. Tons of heart on the ice, skilled and fun to watch.

Yeah, it's too bad the NHL has never forgiven Fleury. I'm sure one day, he'll have his day in the HHOF. He's too good not to be.

Serious Bro?
The first goal Fleury picked the low corner moving cross body with a slap shot in the slot. The second he goes five hole as Fuhr was moving from left to right again- Something we see Johnny do all the time.
You probably too young to remember but Grant Fuhr was an amazing goaltender in the late 80's....Edmonton would not have won 4 Stanley Cups with Rick Wamsley in the net.

The best goal that I can recall of Fleury scoring is when he deked out Ranford on a breakaway. Totally made Ranford look stupid. I think right after that goal, there was a big brawl. That was an awesome goal in an awesome Battle of Alberta game.

He got crosschecked in the back by whatever defenceman was chasing him, well after he scored.

Ya, Bro, seriously. Goalies were pretty horrible until the 90s. Fuhr was awesome...for his time.

This guy has always been and always will be my favourite flame. The skill, grit, and work ethic he showed on the ice was so fun to watch. He played like he was 6'5" rather than 5'6". Agree with the previous post about him being in the HHOF... He's long overdue.

He was also a regular at Video & Sound and all the staff there have said that he is really nice in person.

A friend of mine was trying to convince me this summer that Gretzky would still have scored the same amount of points in todays NHL. "He would dominate" was his words. I told him BS, but he is a greaser fan and you cant reason with that.
Watching this video makes me want to send him a collection of evidence to the contrary. Goalies were so small and the difference between the best skaters and the weakest was massive compared to todays game.

Does the individual entering the HHOF or any Hall of Fame for that matter receive any monetary reward or expensive gift? Perhaps an extra pension?

34 pts in 36 games for Theo!
Hunter was prob there to ensure no Oiler took his head off that night!

Yeah but it's not like player equipment isn't better, nutrition isn't better, video work isn't better.
Also, you can't do near that #### in today's game you could in those 80's.
Today's hockey is actually shifting to the 80's being more wide open IMO. The issue is big goalies and 4 players in a box in front of the net blocking shots.
Would he score 90? Probably not, but people forget how good he was.

Gretzky would still be relatively dominant compared to his peers. No, he wouldn't get 200 points, but this is a guy who had 90 points in his second-to-last year in the league, in his late 30s, in the so-called dead puck era. I know he was an Oiler, but the guy was pretty special.

Not his historic shootout goal?
