He's 14-12-1, GAA of 2.60 and a SP of .910. I've said it before, but if he can finish the season below 2.50 and above .915, you re-sign him. He's playing really well, I'd have no issue keeping him if he keeps it up.
Ortio has been a train wreck this season and Gillies is missing the entire year. Unless you bring in someone on trade or a UFA, Ramo gets re-signed.

1 year would be most beneficial to the Flames.
The Flames tending kind of scares me. We had Vernon then wandered in the weeds for a decade or two, we then had Kipper and we are a bit out there again. I hope one of the young fellows pans out. Macdonald didn't inspire much confidence in me at the WJC's.

29 other teams passed on Ramo for free. No one in the NHL will even have close to the dollars to allocate to free agent goaltending that the Flames will.

Maybe Ramo and Andersen as a UFA pickup. Could be worse.

Right, except the UFA group has Ramo at the very top.

Not a great group is all I'm saying, whatever dollars we have to throw at it.

I would like to see them give Ramo a 1 or 2 year contract, give Ortio a cheap 1 way. Sign a guy with some experience like Montoya to a 2way deal. Go into Training Camp.
Best case, Ortio earns a spot.
Ramo
Ortio
Gillies
Montoya
McDonald
Worst Case, Ortio doesn't earn a spot, and McDonald needs more seasoning before turning pro.
Ramo
Montoya
Gillies
Ortio
Poulin

Ramo starts. If not Ramo, I'm also looking at Cam Talbot, Thomas Griess, and Ben Bishop if Tampa takes on a Raymond contract.
Ortio and Poulin fight for backup in Calgary. I think the final 40 games of the year will be great for their development. Don't forget Ortio is 24 and Poulin is 25. There is no reason to write off either (unless Poulin's knee is done). Before his ankle injury last season Ortio was looking like a future starter. Sometimes coming back from an injury with so much time off finding your rhythm isn't so easy, just look at Gio. I'm not ready to write him off.
Gillies gets the net in Stockton along with whoever didn't win the backup spot in Calgary among Ortio/Poulin.
McDonald straight to Adirondack.
Schneider in the dub. Maybe draft a Finnish goalie if they want someone developing in Europe.
Also don't write off Jonas Hiller. Still a long season to go and he very well might be our backup next season if he takes the pay cut that his shaky play this season has necessitated.

Please, no more Ramo after this year. I'm glad he has settled down and is giving the Flames a chance to at least get a win most nights since the nightmares of the early season. But I just think this is his plateau, he's not going to get better and the Flames need better. much better.

a .922 in his last 18 games (.925 shot quality adjusted) ... if he plateaus around there then that's pretty damn awesome.

Ortio isn't even a good AHL goalie right now
Ramo has made major strides in staying under control in his own net...there are 4 or 5 top end guys in the league and we are not getting one next season

So what, let's see how the entire season plays out. 18 games is nothing to get too pumped at. The team is still mired in the middle of either getting a shot at a top 3 pick or a playoff spot.

Basically you patch together whatever combination of Ramo, Ward, Bishop, Andersen, Ortio and/or whatever the hell the UFA market provides for the next 2-3 years and pray like hell Gillies develops into a #1 NHL goalie.

exactly lets see how it plays out...if the Flames play at the pace they have for the last month or so they will be in the playoffs with home ice

For 3.8 again? I bet he would. Why wouldn't he?

So he can create some stability in his life knowing that he'll stay in Calgary for a couple years. Money isn't going to be a problem for him unless its really low.

Ortio has been a colossal disappointment this year. I'd bring back Ramo and wouldn't even think about bringing back Hiller.
