Russell and Hudler are definitely playing out of contracts with the Flames. I'm glad they are ####ting the bed this year, instead of being this useless once they get new contracts. Hudler is ruining our first line. Frolik can't come back soon enough.

I think it's time to split up Gaudreau/Monahan, Sean is struggling with the puck to the point where the play dies on his stick 8-10 times, he'll be back but insert Bennett till he gets it together.

No idea why the coaching staff gives so many minutes to guys like Colborne and Hudler when they are providing absoutely nothing, and another guy who is busting his butt gets limited minutes. Earned, never given... hmm... Very frustrating. There are a lot of mediocre at best players right now.
Ah well. Happy new year everyone. I wish you guys and the Flames a great 2016!

More like just Wideman. Can't stand the fact that he can't skate, don't shoot the puck like Babchuck, and he's frickin lazy as hell on the point and doesn't make any effort in keeping any plays alive at the blue line. It's really frustrating watching him.
Colborne is probably better than Monahan right now. So, I don't know what people are complaining about.
Overall, the Flames were owned by two significantly larger teams. When's Brad gonna pull the trigger and make this team bigger?

With how poorly Hudler is playing I would rather sign some one else. Throw 5-6 million at Loui Eriksson or 7 for Okposo instead.

There's no carrot being dangled in front of them like there was last year. There's no Setoguchi/McGrattan to waive and Jones/Colborne/Backlund/Raymond to simultaneously get injured. Even when they play well they lose due to piss goaltending. I don't support them mailing it in but it's an almost inevitable conclusion. If Ortio strings together a few shutouts maybe they would string together better play.
Seeing how we're a lot closer to last place than a legitimate, non pacific playoff spot, our offseason needs are being made pretty obvious:
1) Need an explosive natural RWer who can carry the puck and play a cycle game with Monahan on that line. The draft could solve that in Puljujarvi or Laine of course.
2) Need a cheap #4 Defenseman who can play a TIGHT gap and stay on the positive side of sheltered starts which is what our middle pair gets. Brett Kulak could be that but they'll never trust him or Hickey or Culkin or Wotherspoon for another couple years. Brian Campbell comes to mind as a guy who can be that in the short term.
3) Engelland-Wideman is not cutting it as a bottom pairing. Ship one and get the other a smooth-skating partner who plays a tight gap. Ideally a guy right in our system. Maybe ship both and give poor Jakub Nakladal a shot as #6 RD....

I'm also fine with him on the PP - he's not the one calling plays for himself.

I disagree, Wideman is not a good dman. He is sloppy with the puck and constantly fails to pick the open man up in front of the net, and this leads to a lot of goals against. As far as I can tell Wideman is good for one thing, a big shot on the pp and I think there are far better options out there other then him who are less of a defensive liability when at even strength.

When does Frolik come back? I think the Flames are missing him in a surprisingly large way. Also really missing the Hudler of last year, though that Hudler seems to be nothing but a memory being tarnished with each new game this season.
The team is depending too much on Johnny up front right now. The defence are adding a lot offensively, but Johnny can't do everything for offence from the team's forwards. We need more goal scoring threats up there.

Okposo would be a great addition to this team. I kind of hope that Ferland can develop into something of that power forward role, but there's no doubt it's what the Flames need and a player like Okposo would look good on the wing.

With how badly Bollig lost that fight to Lucic, I wonder why he even has a roster spot. The one area of expertise for him and he could not hold his own against a primarily scoring forward. Not good.

Whats he going to really change around? Everything has already been tried this year. Remember october and November.
The only thing that really worked was Russel and Bouma went down and Smid drew in.

I want to see Grant and Shore get some serious looks in 2016.
Grant was physical and over 80% on face offs in his short stint.
Shore because he is playing well this year. He was good enough to make Florida's team but the had no room for him and 12 teams pressured BT for him last year has to mean he has to be good for something.

Ferland has the problem that when he plays like he did against Van in the playoffs, he justifies a regular shift. But you can't play 82 games that way. And when he doesn't play that way, he is more like an AHLer.
Not a unique problem . Basically it is consistency. Guys who are young may get a job due to potential but lose it based on consistency
I know the commentators love to heap praise on his glimpses of upside but was disappointed that he showed up mainly for the third

Ferland - Backlund - Colborne
Gaudreau - Bennett - Raymond
Bouma - Monahan - Hudler
Granlund - Stajan - Jones
That's how I'd line up the next game.
The Backlund and Stajan lines face the toughest zone starts.
PP1:
Ferland - Monahan - Bennett
Giordano - Gaudreau
PP2:
Colborne - Backlund - Raymond
Hamilton - Brodie

My record for attending games at the Dome live sucks! So far i'm 3 loses in hole and counting. I think I'll stay home for the rest of the season

What? Lucic can score but he's a 6'3-235lb beast with far more career PM's than points. There isn't one player on our roster that would have much of a chance against him.
