Have you thought about getting a second job? If you can't cut expenses it seems like you need to boost your income

yes I have.

Been thinking about doing UBER for some extra cash. I work 9a-6pm everyday so the hours would be hard to find a part time place that would be okay with me coming in at 630-7pm.

The best news is that I am able to afford life now, just nothing fancy which I'm fine with. I have been looking for hotel jobs and have been offered positions but they either wanted less pay, no insurance, or both. I wouldn't leave this job for a job that pays the same but wants me to work 10+ more hours a week and make what I make now. I can be picky for the time being looking for a good job.

Guys, living in the southern States and being poor is a vast sucking trap that's designed to stop people climbing out in a way that up here or in Europe we can't understand.

Give PIMking a break.

Just trying to understand his situation and offer some suggestions. If he is having problems paying his bills, and he can't cut costs- then finding a way to boost his income is a legitimate option.

I was trying to see if it was choices he was making, and if he needed help making better choices. I understood he had some issues in the past, and thanks to some very generous CP members, he received a large influx of cash. If he's gone through that due to medical bills, that's one thing. If it's due to poor/unreasonable choices, then maybe it's time to assess those.

When I was a poor student I had to make choices. I didn't go out to dinner. I went to multiple supermarkets, looked through flyers for deals, and used coupons to buy groceries as cheap as possible. I went to the gym at my school, bought clothes only when on sale, wore those clothes longer than I'd like, and bought furniture second hand. I studied a ton, and worked 30-40 hours per week. I never went to one hockey game in person, and I didn't own a jersey. A lot of this time sucked, but it was what I needed to do in order to graduate without debt, save a little, and set myself up for the future. If PIMKing is able to make some of these changes and sacrifices, he'll be able to set himself up for success as well. He needs to see if it's worth it or not. This has nothing to do with being in Canada, the UK, or the south. It's all about choices.

Instead of getting a truckload of IKEA furniture, get some used stuff off of craigslist for cheap, or even free. Instead of buying the latest shirt, shorts and shoes to workout in, use the ones you have. Instead of quenching your thirst with Gatorade, drink water. Instead of having a gym pass, go outside and workout, or use stuff around your house. Instead of having the latest iPhone, get a previous model that's free. None of these things are fun, or desirable, but if you continue to spend money freely, without having the income to support it, you'll continue to have money problems forever. Once again, that's not a Canada/Southern USA thing. That's just making sound financial decisions.

I'd love to drive a Bentley, have all my dress clothes be bespoke articles from Europe, and stay at the Ritz Carlton's penthouse suite everywhere I go. Unfortunately for me, I cannot afford that. I make a lot more than I did in university, and I spend more as well. I still don't spend more than I make, and I make choices. Not every choice is to my liking, but sometimes I'd rather have something later, than have something now. Maybe he needs some tough lough like OilKiller got. Maybe he needs a gentle push in the right direction. Maybe his choice is to stay with the status quo. I just saw that even after getting the generous contributions, that many posts continue to discuss money issues. I genuinely want him to not have these problems, and am trying to offer solutions that worked for me, and/or might work for him. If I'm way off base here, I'll stop.

The one thing I did do was Ikea, now I did do my research and got stuff on sale there.

I don't have a gym membership anymore, $30/mo is just not in the cards right now, I didn't drink gatorade when I was working out and just drank good ole water.

I do some use coupons a lot and dont eat like a king, just the essentials. I'm not just wasting money, its tight and I'm saving slowly but its just a tough position until her visa stuff is done so she can help with bills.

The job I have is literally 6 min walk from home, I rarely drive the car unless it's raining.

The other big problem i ran into on Craigslist is hauling it to my place, no one wanted to deliver.

Squiggs spits hot fire!

Glad you're saying it though, I was on my two month Jiri sabbatical when all that Help PIMKing stuff went down, and despite donating myself I regretted doing it and wished I could post why others should have maybe slowed down.

Won't go into too many reasons and details at this late hour, but seeing PIMking pretend to not know what GoFundMe was in that thread, despite trying to start one himself in previous thread 6 months earlier (that failed) really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Get things sorted out man, get financial planning help above anything else. Milking this forum for over 5 grand, tax free, and still dropping comments about money problems is just tacky.

Time for some hard truths.

In this thread with this post PIMking set up his own GoFundMe page. It didn't take with the forum.

Several months later PIMking started a thread about being homeless and living in his car. It caught the attention of all of Calgarypuck, myself included as I also donated (what a dink and ### I am). In that thread several posters suggested he start a GoFundMe page, when PIMking replied to that suggestion he claimed he had no idea what that was or how to do it. He knew what GoFundMe was back in March. The thread has since been obliterated or archived but I'm sure a mod can back me up on that rather easily.

Someone has to ask the awkward questions and if that makes me a dink in your eyes, so be it. I'll gladly take that label everyday of the god damn week and twice on Sundays if that's the case.

Also, I'm still hilarious. Fact.

When I went through some tough lean times, I ditched my credit cards, got a debit/credit card and took a loan to consolidate my debts. Then I knew exactly where I was at all times, knew how much I had to pay off my loan and it was paid off before I knew it because during that whole year I was not only saving, being frugal, but realized I had lots of stuff I don't use that I went and sold and anytime I had a bit of extra money I put it back on to the loan.

CC's are a primary place to start if you want to get lean and build back up your savings.

Hmm, that sure doesn't look good for pimking. Were we all had? I doubt it, and I think he genuinely hit hard times and I'm glad the community helped. Nevertheless, he should come in an clarify a little.

I'm kinda glad this was brought to light. I bit my tongue on this before. I donated to the original surgery thread, then after that I was notified through go fund me another fundraiser had been set up, then the Homeless thread came up.

Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt that PIMKing is going through hard times, however, CP is a weirdly generous, and affluent online community. The 1%er thing as much of an in-joke as it is, holds a lot of water. Some of the credit apps I have done off this site are rather impressive.

My issue is, if PIMKing is struggling so much, perhaps he should be looking at proper social assistance, instead of relying on the generosity of this community. I think we have enabled an easy teet to suckle off by immediately rushing to aid with cash.

edit: The account no longer active avatar now showing up in his profile says a lot to me, as opposed to addressing this.

I agree with this, but I hope the community doesn't stop its longstanding tradition of generosity and compassion. There have been some great moments on this board that have stemmed from it. I think of that thread where Mayer needed money to help pay for his dog's surgery as one of the better examples. I personally did not donate to PIMKing's cause, but I don't consider anyone who did a sucker. I think it comes with the territory of being a good person. Every once in a while you take it on the chin, but the majority of the time you're probably going to be doing someone a huge favour that they're forever grateful for.

I agree, that was one of the best moments this site has ever had. Even though Mayer is a dirty Canucks fan.

I actually think that thread was the reason why I felt a little suspicious about the PIMKing stuff. I don't necessarily think PIMKing was intending to rip people off or was acting with malice, but the way in which things started certainly felt a bit manipulative. With Mayer, he just came straight out and asked for money and after the surgery was done, didn't mention money again. With PIMKing there was initially quite a bit of beating around the bush, and then after the campaign he continued to drop hints about needing more money.
