Winter tires are mandatory on the Icefields Parkway from Nov 1 to Mar 31.

Its an equally gorgeous drive in the Winter too, but far too risky to drive at night IMO.

I worked up on the icefields three years ago building the new road onto the the glacier.

I'd say from Louise to Sask river crossing is a breeze, after that when you start the ascent, it can get really dicey, so if you get stressed driving in slightly less than desirable conditions you're gonna have a bad time. And the plows are only out during the day, so if you get socked in, you're in for the night. And pray you don't end up camped road side on the narrower stretches of road.

Stay an extra night and leave in the morning. Not worth the possibility of getting stranded in the middle of the night.

Drove out to Bow Lake last weekend. It was basically one lane. Not one lane each direction, just one lane. Might be better now with not much snow falling, but you're probably going to be doing 50-70 the entire time. Not like you'll save time.

I would have been able to afford to stay the night had I not got a speeding ticket on the way up
