Alright CP, I need some help with a bet.

In the summer, I made a bet on the Calder with an annoying oiler fan frenemy of mine. He of course took McDavid and I got the rest of the field. And I got 3:2 odds, which I think is a pretty good bet. The bet is for $100, so I get $150 if the field wins, and I lose $100 if McDavid wins.

As of right now, Panarin looks really good for the Calder, but some voters might shy away from him because of his age... Age definitely played a part in last year's vote. Domi and Larkin are also looking really strong. After that, Eichel could definitely still turn it on and contend for the Calder.

Stone came out of no-where after Christmas last year, and went point per game the rest of the way to jump into contention. There are probably 10 players in the race that could still do this, including Bennett, Ehlers, Duclair, Lindberg, Reinhart etc. Also, Parayko is so far a 1/2 point a game defenseman getting over 19 minutes a game on a good team. He will definitely get some votes.

I don't think any goalies are in contention yet, but that could happen in the second half as well.

And then, of course, there is McDavid. If he comes back and scores at a point a game pace or better... does that beat the contenders listed above? Panarin is at almost point a game pace as it is, and if he continues he should have 20 or more points more than McDavid. Domi isn't far behind that, and Larkin is putting up good points while also being +20.

The reason I ask, is because I've been offered a buyout of $80 on the bet. If we cancel the bet now, I get paid $80. Should I take it... or let the bet run and try to get the full $150? I should note that I don't care that much about the money... I just want to extract the maximum amount of schadenfreude from the oiler fan.

Thoughts?

Shaw with ENG from Hjalmarsson 3-0 near the end.

Then Mashinter with his 1st NHL goal with 9.8 left...4-0 final

Your friend is silly for not making an injury exception.

The Avalanche won 3-1 despite only having 18 shots on goal (six shots each period). Varlamov was the reason why Colorado won as he faced 43 shots, Tarasenko had the Blues only goal.

Since he's an annoying oilers fan tell him you'll let him off the hook for $149.00 and buy him a happy meal.

I love people who make bets with their hearts instead of their brains. Calder favorites only win about 20% of the time.

That was a good bet for you before the season started when Mcdavid was healthy. Can't believe you got the field and the odds. If it was a good bet with a healthy Mcdavid it is a great bet with an injured one. Wait until June and collect your 150.

Take the sure money.

Watching the Oilers, and by proxy their fans, lose anything is its own reward.

Seems like everyone thinks I should stick it out. That's the way I'm leaning as well.

I do worry that the insane hype train that the NHL, Sportsnet, TSN and the oilers have going might sway enough voters, even if McDavid only gets in 50-60 games. I wasn't expecting the wall to wall hype that we saw at the start of the year.

Also, in regards to the onesidedness of the bet... I've often felt that one could make a living just by making bets with oiler fans during the offseason.

Edit: And just as I post this, the first vote for taking the money comes in!

Glad to see the Canucks are still playing like garbage. It'll be fun watching the Flames leap frog them in the standings over the next couple of games.
