But yes some Samsung gripes still exist.
For me it came down to screen size. I hate this phablet trend. The S6 screen is a perfect size for me.

Oh yeah, of course. I didn't mean for it to come out that way. I have noticed that the performance of my dad's S6 is far superior to my old S5.
I still prefer the 6P, but it's a matter of personal preference. All I'm saying is, be sure to check them both out...preferably try them both in the store before making a decision.

Hey guys,
I happen to be looking for a new phone as well (2 year contract just ended with Rogers) and was thinking of the Samsung S6 (currently have S4). After reading this the Nexus 6p sounds very promising as well.
The best deal I can find currently is $199 for Nexus 6P 32gb with Rogers (Would prefer to stay with Rogers, but am open to change). Bell and Telus offer similar deals of around $150-250.
Are there much better deals to be found if I wait closer to Christmas? Or is ordering the 64gb one from Google for $750 and doing month to month a better idea? Buying outright from google seems to be ~$25-30 a month cost so if I can save that on a plan it could be worth it?
Again, is there much better deals to be found potentially on boxing day / Christmas or through other providers/methods?
Thanks for any input!

Best Buy had it for $0 on Black Friday, with Rogers, I believe. Right now, Telus has it for $50, plus a $50 Google Play credit.
http://www.telus.com/en/ab/mobility/devices/nexus-6p/
Telus fine print seems to imply that the price is valid until Dec 31st, but this clause is for the Google Play credit, so they could raise the price before then...
Quote:
Must purchase a Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P or Blackberry Priv and activate or renew a postpaid rate plan starting on December 1, 2015 and ending on December 31, 2015, or while supplies last, to qualify for the promotional credit.
|
Keep in mind that if you get it from a carrier on a 2 year contract, the plan will cost ~$20/mo more than BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Thats $480 over 24 months right there.
If you were going to pay $200 for the phone, that would be $680, at which point you are better off just buying it from Google and getting the freedom of BYOD + no contract.
At $50, you're only at $530 for the cost of the phone. So if you're willing to go with Telus and sign up for a 2 year contract (ew... *), then you're getting a bit of a deal on the phone. But if you want the extra storage in the 64GB, you'd have to get it from Google.
To answer your question, it may come on special again for Christmas or Boxing Day for $0, but that's no guarantee, obviously. Its sort of at $0 now if you count that Google Play credit. You won't get much better than that, although on Black Friday it was $0, PLUS the $50 Google Play gift card.
If you are currently with and want to stay with Rogers, you could TRY calling Loyalty and asking them to match Telus' offer. You never know, they might do it. IIRC, don't Rogers Wireless customers get free NHL GameCentre Live?
* - Poster hates, and is heavily biased against wireless contracts, and always prefers to buy his phones outright on month-to-month plans.

i freakin' love my Nexus 6p to go along with other posts in this thread.
I'd advise you pick one up though in store to see how it feels in your hand. My hands are big enough that it's still a one-handed device for me but my wife doesn't like it because everything requires two hands for her to use it.

There's the LG G4 with Koodo that's going for ~$410 outright (activate then cancel right away). If you stay with Koodo, then $360 of it can be paid off in $15 monthly increments over 2 years.

I ordered a Nexus 6P for $99 through Worldlynx. They had them for $49 during Black Friday but I dragged my feet.

Anyone looking for a phone with Rogers
I would assume Telus would come out with something similar or even price match

Looking for a colour laser printer if anyone has seen any deals for those yet. Any recommendations for printers? Anything under $500 unless there is a good one that's worth the price for more.

Celebrated Square Root Day
|
Update: Telus released their boxing week sales, good until Dec 31. I think I'll wait for Best Buy, but the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge just went down from $350 on a 2 year deal to $100. Excellent deal, and it may sway me from the Nexus 6P.
I'm still thinking about the Nexus 6P, but I don't know if I can bring myself to permanently carry something that big around. I definitely have the hand size to comfortably use it, but phablets just feel a little too bulky in the pocket and are slightly awkward when trying to just do simple things like whipping out your phone with one hand and firing off a text.

To sum up the 2 year plan deals...
IPhone 5S - 16GB - $0
IPhone 6 - 16GB - $100
Samsung Galaxy edge - 32GB - $100
Ipad mini 4 - 16GB - $0
Check them out, there's more, but those seem to be the best deals so far.
