There might be a third possibility.

Have you been paying attention to suspensions in Junior? They're a lot more severe than Pro suspensions. David Branch is a hard ass.

Oh, and IIHF recognizes them.

Have I been paying attention to suspensions in Junior? Not at all.

I just listened to Mackenzie's speculation on why the suspension is as long as it is (up to 6 games doesn't really impact him). So I understand where they are coming from making it 8.

As for the viciousness of the attack, I don't think he swung as hard as he could have, and he missed.

That's option (A)

Option (B) is he's Zach Fucale redux

David Branch is on a crusade to "save" junior hockey from a relatively non-existent problem. And that is why OHL suspensions are completely out of line with WHL suspensions. I would argue it is also why there are 10 clips of OHL players getting clobbered for every 1 of a WHL player suffering the same fate. WHL players are still taught to keep their heads up and be aware of their surroundings. OHL players seem to be more inclined to think Branch's rules will protect them when they cut across the trolley tracks with their heads down.

Well there is the part where the Wings had been running Kiprusoff the whole game with no push back by the Flames. Playfair should have dressed Godard and there wouldn't have been a problem. The fake outrage by the Wings announcers is kind of funny though.
