At very least, your cost is much less. As well, small claims are different than queen's bench. The case that makes the most sense usually wins. It's easier to get your judgement and a real lawyer is less important. It's made for the general public, not lawyers.

As my divorce lawyer pointed out, it's not just about winning the case, it is also about how much it costs to win the case, there's sod all point in winning a 50,000 dollar settlement but spending 150,000 in legal fees to get it.

Invariably a quick and dirty compromise at the beginning of the litigation is your best bet, even if you don't feel like you've 'won'.
