Sutter may have not made the playoffs but he never delivered a sub-90 point season from the Flames while Hartley has a single 90 point season in four seasons. He pulled a rabbit out of his hat last season but if you look at the other seasons it's not really been very good at all as they have never played sound defense under his watch.
I simply don't see a scenario play out where he's coaching the team next season if they continue to play as they have in the first two months of the season. Much too risky to come back next season and expect the team to all of a sudden play a sound defensive system when it hasn't been that way under his first four seasons.
