Reggie: No Anne Murry would have her ass handed to her by Ashley.
Cowperson: Atlantic salmon is better as the water is colder
Haligonians are a weird breed, they're not like us, they think they're Toronto, I don't ask many questions, take solice in the fact that I'm better, haha.
not that I'm aware of, but that doesn't mean no. I know of Ingonish, Antigonish, Christmas Island which are some odd place names. Outside of the Maritimes there is a Comeby Chance, and Dildo both in Newfoundland
I don't eat, nor like seafood (odd being where I'm from I know) so I couldn't tell you. But generally if you put fish over fire, sprinkle with beer, you're doing a-ok!

Is it true that all the Maritimes have are bars and cars?
Have you ever met Alexander Keith? (I think he's from the maritimes....)

AntigoNowhere... love that term
I was unaware that Stompin Tom was raised in Saint John.
Zoidberg: Maritimes have more bars than you folks do out West, and we do have cars as well, infact there used to be a Volvo factory in Halifax, and an autoport is here as well.
As for Alexander Keith, I've walked through the cemetary that his grave is at, but haven't been there to look at it (ironic that I'm drinking one of his beers now). He was a mayor of Halifax, and is in the NS Business Hall of Fame. Unfortuante that you have to pay for import prices for his drink in Alberta. I tell you next time I'm there I'll be arguing with the bar manager with a dictionary in hand saying that I should be charged a domestic price... you'll then see me kicked out on the street after having been beaten with the very same dictionary by the bouncers, haha.

Many people like me, are ignorant of the differences between all of the far East provinces. Having said that, the following questions come up...
-What provinces are included in "The Maritimes"?
-What are major differences between the 4 Eastern provinces?
-Does it anger you that people like me, know nothing of that part of our own country?

1.We don't include Nfld as the Maritimes but everything else is
2.NB is mainly known as the poor province..Pei is tourism..NS is fishing and Nfld is kind of a combo of all 3
3. We have no major sports teams(although there is talk of Halifax and Moncton getting CFL teams)as a Maritimer who grew up in Calgary..westerners seem to see the "old down home fiddle playing fishermen stereotype but we're actually growing very fast here in Moncton...we're having a little band called "the Rolling Stones" here in just over a week..that says alot of our accelerated growth
and what we're capable of

Here's a question I posed earlier today in a webchat on WashingtonPost.com to the filmmaker of the PBS documentary "Gutted" for the series Wide Angle. Maybe you can add some further insight.
"Calgary, Alberta, Canada: As a resident of Western Canada who attends university in Eastern Canada for part of the year, I would like to know what choices as a consumer I can make to minimize any derogatory effect on the fishing industry and whether those choices differ depending on whether I am buying mostly Pacific or Atlantic stock."

I'm sure the fishing industry would really benefit if I did that.
Seriously though, for the sake of the industry we should continue to buy fish, but only certain kinds. And we must be conscious of where it came from.
This site is good.

As stocks of our favorite fish plummet or become tainted by environmental contaminants, we are forced to acknowledge that the sea is a limited resource that must be managed wisely if future generations are to enjoy its fruits. Among over-fished species scientists recommended we avoid at the dinner table are: Chilean seabass, Atlantic cod, King crab, Monkfish, red snapper, imported swordfish, and bluefin tuna. Good alternatives include: black seabass, bluefish, clams, halibut, hering, lobster, mahi mahi, oysters, squid, domestic swordfish, striped bass, tilapia, and yellowfin tuna.

There sure are a lot of us. I grew up in Halifax, moved to Ottawa when I was 24, went back for a year when I was 27... but there was really no point. Most of the friends I went to university with had all moved off and spread throughout the country. So I'm back in Ottawa.
I once heard it said that the Martimes #1 export is educated children.
So my question to someone who is still there - are the Mooseheads going to suck with Vrana in Albany? How will the Screaming Eagles fare? Just how many Q teams are there in the Maritimes? Isn't it about time to change the name of the league?

Devils'Advocate: I don't think the Mooseheads will have a great season this year, middle of the road maybe, I was at the exhibition game against Bathurst the other night and wasn't overly impressed. Cape Breton should have another middle of the road year this season. However with James Sheppard currently ranked #6 by the Red Line Report for the 2006 Draft, as well as some rookies that are really impressing in camp and the young guns from last season they might be able to do something in the playoffs this year.
The QMJHL has Halifax, Cape Breton, Saint John, PEI, Bathurst, Moncton (Mem Cup Hosts this year), as well St John's has a team as well. Also of note Lewiston ME has a team.
icarus: buy more fish? what fish? haha
calf: Labrador is part of Newfoundland, but traditionally was a part of Quebec. They're Newfs but not really, the few people I know from there like to make the distinction.
CaramonLS: I CAN NOT sing, you DON'T want to hear me sing. I'm saving all your ears here people! :P
Winsor_Pilates: Maritimes are Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI... add Newfoundland for the Atlantic Provinces
Nova Scotia is the sea coast, right on the ocean, has the Annaoplis Valley, Cape Breton Island, as well as ferry services to Maine, Newfoundland, and PEI. Transport is a major indusrty here, as well as the navy, and tourism. Halifax, Nova Scotia is also the economic hub of the Maritimes.
PEI's economy is based on farming, and tourism. They have thousands of people travel there to see the Anne of Green Gables stuff each year.
New Brunswick... ummm sucks? Hahaha, actually it's a fine province has a few "major" cities (I say 'major' as they aren't on par with Calgary or Edmonton) with Freedytown, Moncton, and Saint John. Moncton is the economic hub of New Brunswick, and is the gateway to PEI and Nova Scotia.
All three are similar but Nova Scotia is the best, hahaha. I'd say NS also has the move Celtic culture in it.
I don't think people should know everything about this part of the country, I get angered when it's not acknowledged. If you can't even name the provinces and capitals I get angered, but it's like that for everywhere in the country IMO. I'd be upset if you couldn't tell me the capital of BC was Victoria.
Reggie: I don't know, I don't drink Moosehead out of priniciple of hating the Halifax Mooseheads with an ultimate passion.

Also, why when you get a ride with someone they call it a "drive".......as in i'm getting a drive with my roommate to the bar, always loved that one.
Not making fun either, my ex is from n.b. and still lives there and got family in the cape and go every year.
