Bingo.

I was golfing at the CGCC with a local politician a few years back, and had asked about it. It is indeed a kids camp.

Sandy Beach, the kids camp, River Park and Brittania Slopes (across the river) is situated on land donated to the City of Calgary by the Eric Harvie family. I'm fairly certain that the 3-4 houses that were just south of Sandy Beach were owned by family members.

There are some other weird properities I'm interested in:
- The house up on the Hill east of COP. Huge home by itself on that hill. I've researched it and it was originally some sort of ranch. Can't remember the name now.

Not sure if I'm accurately describing.

When you google one of those addresses you get the name Geoff Cragg.

Weird. I've biked past this - and always wondered what the heck the property was. Would love to know the history.

There was another one in bowness on the north side of the river in the dog park. Think it was land owned by the city but was a historical settlement type house. Pretty cool

I remember a few random houses below Sarcee Trail on the way towards HWY1; those always fascinated me.

Not specific to a house but find that Baroc Road NW seems to be really out of place. It almost doesn't even seem like that street is part of Calgary despite being in Dalhouise. It is a gravel road and the paved roads in Dalhousie abruptly end coming up to Baroc Road. The homes acreages instead of typical 70s suburban homes. I'm assuming the landowners at the time of development didn't want to sell the landowners to the city/developer when they were planning Dalhousie but it seems odd that the city, to this day, wouldn't pave the road.

I had no idea that was there, and I live in the area! That is super strange, especially considering the size of some of those houses.

I always wondered what the deal was with that little ranch/farm in the middle of Arbour Lake. Then someone told me that it Arbour Lake, Ranchlands, Hawkwood, Crowfoot and Citadel were all owned by the Hawkwood family.

I thought I heard that that little area is not part of the city, but part of MD Rockyview. They have septic tanks and are not plugged into the city's infrastructure. Don't recall where I heard this, so take with a grain of salt.

I also heard it was some weird religious cult.

I've heard that too...I think it was from someone that used to live there too, but it was so long ago, I can't say for sure.

I thought the ranch was just some curmudgeonly old lady that wouldn't sell out, so they built around her.

This old MLS listing implies it is part of Calgary, but hopefully it is wrong as I like your theory better:>

Also, there is apparently a Mennonite church there:

Must be a Mennonite cult!

Actually, coincidentally enough, I go to that church. Pretty mainstream Christian. There have been pockets of more traditional Mennonites (long dresses and head coverings for women, dark suits for men) who have attended there in the past, but they came from the Mennonite colony in Belize which is pretty old-order. Don't think any attend there now.

The church is on the eastern end of Baroc Road and is definitely part of the city. It's when you travel west and the pavement ends that you seem to move to a different territory.

There's this house too, just off the ramp going from WB 16th Ave to NB Stoney, west of COP: https://www.google.ca/maps/@51.08767...2!8i6656?hl=en

Always wondered what it was doing there.
