I'm going to go with the simple formula. Everyone under age 26, re sign to bridge deals. Exceptions Johnny and Monahan.( long term deals for Johnny and Sean) Resign Nakladl . Trade / release the rest.

Seek a top six RW. and a new Goalkeeper not named Hiller / Ramo in free agency. Once the above youth are locked up. over pay a little bit if needed.

His longevity in this league is highly questionable playing at that size and if Brad Trellving has any smarts he would dish him for some heavier guys like Backes or Chris Stewart while his value is at its highest.
Have you watched a hockey game in the last 3 seasons? Backes and Chris Stuart (see I can't even spell his name correctly) are 3rd line players who couldn't turn on a manhole cover. If the sell high on J.Hockey is a thing...Backes and st(ewww)art are only something Kevin Lowe high on bath salts would consider. Sell high means you unload unwanted property for an even higher return then you acquired it for. A 4th rounder that ended up becoming a dynamic and sought after piece should command at least a high 1st, the bluest chip of prospect, and more picks. The dividends this assets will return by keeping it far outweigh the *dream* of selling high.

Sulphuric acid has no place in hockey, go dissolve the life long equation of why you can't comprehend sports before you ever bring up Chris stEWart and J.Hockey in the same comparison ever again.

Jooris to me is a lot like Bouma. They are fine players but you should be paying them much. You should be able to replace a guy like that with someone in the AHL. If you have to give him a much more than a million - you let him walk.

Flames will likely be looking to move a number of these guys at the deadline. Hudler, Russell, Jones and Hiller would be my guess.

Raymond and Ramo won't be back next season.

Because he's being moved too? He is still under contract next season.

Flames that are currently on long term contracts that are off to a bad start

Gio
Hamilton
Frolik
Backlund

Guys into long term contracts that have been disappointing

Wideman
Jones --- had to take him to get rid of Tangauy
Smid
Stajan
Raymond
Engelland

Guys that are long term contract good deals: Brodie and Hudler

6 bad long term versus 2 good ones with 4 off to a bad start that might work out.

I would rather sign Gaudreau / Monahan to bridge deals like Elias Lindholm and Huberdeau rather than sign them to 6-year deals. If they continue getting better then pay them market value as they become UFAs....

Please explain how Frolik is off to a bad start?

And Engelland too...

Edit - Don't explain. I can't be bothered.

If Frolik is off to a bad start I eagerly await his hot streak.

Bennett/Backs/Frolik have been our most consistent line the last 6 or so games IMO.

This team doesn't get better holding on to Wideman and Russell. They can both go.

I'd keep Jones at ~$1.5M. If he wants more, bon voyage. I'd also keep Colborne, not sure why others are letting him walk, he still has upside IMO.

Re-Sign for sure:

Gaudreau
Monahan
Colborne
Jooris
Grant
Wotherspoon

Sign if willing to take dirt cheap deal (1 mill or less):

Hiller

Should re-sign but not too worried if not signed:

Granlund
Hamilton
Shore
Ortio

Don't re-sign or to AHL only deals:

Arnold
Agostino
Nakladal
Van Brabant
Elson

Try to trade during season and if not don't re-sign:

Ramo
Hudler
Russell
Jones

Why Nakladal under that category? He's Stockton's number one d-man right now and could be fighting for Russells spot along with Kulak next year.

He is 27 and in the short time that I have seen him play he doesn't look like he is likely going to be anything more than a poor 6th or 7th defenseman in the NHL.

I would also rather see guys like Wotherspoon, Kulak, Andersson, Kylington or Hickey get a shot before Nakladal.

I think we will need a better option than him to fill in the 4th spot behind Gio, Brodie and Hamilton and prefer one of the above young guys to fill in the 6th spot beside Engelland.

I doubt we can get rid of Smid so he can sit in the PB for next season.

If it's not a typo, I'd guess StrykerSteve is thinking (or hoping) that Raymond gets bought out in the offseason.

Isn't Bishop a UFA this summer?

Yeah, I imagine Treliving will be working hard to move him.

Bishop might be. But he's probably going to cost north of 5 mill... and I'd like us to have some flexiblity without going into cap hell that's all.

second-most.

Gaudreau-Bennett-X has been our most consistent line. Until Hartley broke them up to get Monahan and Hudler going.

Granlund is one of our top prospects who's shown an ability to score at the NHL level while Wotherspoon couldn't even beat Kulak out for a roster spot in his make-or-break year and it's way too early to give up on Ortio unless he craps the bed all season. Agostino and Arnold are way better than "AHL-only contract players"... they're better than Hamilton for starters.

...And Colborne barely survived training camp cuts by getting injured. Not exactly "re-sign for sure" territory.
