Because Hiller or Gilles is likely out long term and the Flames needed someone to help Stockton out.

It means nothing. It's a giveaway, pure and simple. "Future considerations" is a placeholder for zero. It doesn't turn into a player or pick.

Sounds to me like Ramo or Ortio are not going back down to Stockton.

I would be pretty surprised if we don't trade one if the 'main 3' by the end of the weekend.

Actually, I guess it's possible that Hiller is out long term as well.

What I don't understand about this move is that we already have 4 pro goalies.

Once Hiller is healthy, we will have Hiller, Ramo, and Ortio in Calgary, and Gillies and Poulin in Stockton.

That just leaves us with the 3-headed monster again.

Or this means one of the current guys is going to be shipped out.

I hope this doesn't mean that Gillies is going to be out long-term.

Unfortunately it's the wrong goalie.
Yeah, he's not very good, but could anyone possibly be worse than the goalies we've had this year? I'd be willing to give him a game or two to see what he can do.

That is, providing that Ortio doesn't stink in his next start. I'm still hoping he figures it out and takes over the job.

Poulin isn't very good. Either are the other three. I'm perplexed.

Wills said Hiller isn't close to returning this morning on 960. Perhaps they expect none of the big three to return to Stockton any time soon, so they need to "stock" up.

Here's my tweet from Oct 30.

@Justthebeanguy: @SUNRandySportak Kevin poulin cleared waivers this week. Maybe gm bt should give Stevie y a call. Answers aren't here.

Looks like he's the answer right now - for Stockton.

I assume Gillies and/or Hiller is going to be out for awhile so this provides them with a veteran option in Stockton so they don't have to go with the Simpson/Hartzell (is that who they signed?) combo.

Maybe Gillies' injury is worse than first thought?

He's inexpensive and has NHL experience. There's very little downside to a deal like this.

But we gave up nothing for him. He just fills a roster spot and there is no commitment to develop him or worry about giving him playing time. We just need a temporary placeholder.

Don't you know that doesn't mean anything? He probably just had bad defensive coverage in front of him. He's the best.

Gillies is supposedly making the road trip with Stockton to Texas. unless he had a setback.

Not true at all.

Flames acquired Keith Seabrook from the Capitals for future considerations on July 2009

Later turned into a 7th round draft pick in the 2012 draft.

Future considerations is a placeholder, but it can lead to picks or players later.
