There is! It's built into your thumb or finger. When you see this thread, don't click on it. Do you really need an ignore button or can you just simply ignore it?

I agree with most of the rest of your post. But if Bollig is earning a "platinum salary", so is Jooris and Colborne. In addition to the others you called out.
http://www.generalfanager.com/teams/calgary-flames

Even at $1.25M Bollig is not worth what he's paid. As for the others -- I'm talking about Jones, Backs, Stajan -- 3 of our top 6 paid forwards right now. And their contribution is well below what they are earning.

In the preseason there was the unsubstantiated report of him injuring his back:
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=148907

There is also the playoffs last year, where his play was a step below the regular season (afterwards he initially denied being injured but later did finally admit to being less than 100%).

Is our number one centre dinged up again? The faceoffs are a telling stat for me -- can't really blame that on linemates or systems. Some have called for him to sit in the press box for a game -- with Bennett making strides I also wonder if putting him on a third line with more favourable matchups might get him going confidence-wise.
great thread title BTW

Absolutely fair to include those three. And is Bollig underperforming? Sure, most of the team is. But Bollig isn't a member of the "platinum salary" club you've started.

Maybe Monahan is simply more of a Daymond Langkow than a Jonathan Toews. He may not be the straw that stirs the drink offensively, and better to find that out before his next contract is negotiated.

Either way I expect he'll be a Flame a long time. He may just need more adjustment than his pretty torrid NHL start would have suggested. There are lots of skills to work on given his position, and he's still just a kid. Hopefully he doesn't have a nagging injury though, particularly if it dates back to last season.

He's hit some posts here and there (was that his in the opening seconds of the fame last night), and I'm sure the points will come as his game and the team rebounds. But the FO situation has been really noticeable to me, especially since it's been a point of pride for him early in his career.
Gio hit the post early in last night's game.

If he's injured (back) then they need to shut him down till he's better... plain and simple Playing injured isn't worth the risk long term

I think it's the pressure of being a #1 and potential future captain at his age. He likely feels a need to be perfect and it's making an already serious guy more tense, he doesn't have the inherent loose mentality Bennett has.

I've said this before in another thread but I personally think what Mony has done the past couple years is basically his ceiling. I do think a lot of people have too much expectations for him and to a certain extent has overestimated his skill.

Mony is a good finisher but other than that I don't think he's a 1C. From what I've watched throughout his time in the NHL, he doesn't have top line skating and he isn't that special defensively. He will be a good solid player for us in years to come, but that's all I'd expect from him.

I feel Bennett will be our 1C and also think Jankowski has will surpass Mony in a couple years. Agree or disagree, this is strictly my own opinion.

Points-wise I could see last season as being close to Monahan's ceiling. I expect the rest of his game to start filling out more. Better in the dot, better in his own zone, better along the boards. He might have a season or two where he outperforms last season, but if he's a consistent 60 pt guy that plays a very complete game I'll be more than happy.

Based on his first 2 seasons an argument could be made that Monahan was the best player from his draft class. Now he's terrible?

Most unbiased people would trade Monahan away for MacKinnon in a split second.

Hamilton hasn't been obviously awful for a few games and a new target is needed. What else are we gonna do, just sit around letting these pitchforks and torches go unused?

Holy hyperbole.

He's having a bad season. That doesn't mean he is terrible overall.

Monahan has always been invisible when he isn't scoring goals.

He has a terrific nose for the net. But other than his goal totals, there's really nothing about his game that stands out as being particularly 'elite' yet.

Another player like this that comes to mind is Ryan Smyth. He put up multiple 30+ goal seasons as a well-rounded player with a nose for the net (insert nose joke here). But there was really nothing 'elite' about his game outside of his ability to bang in the puck from down low. And when he wasn't scoring, he often looked out of place as a 1st liner.

I don't think Monahan's play has dropped off much this season, the puck just isn't going in for him right now. He probably still finishes this season with 20 or more goals, and I'll lay money on him having multiple 30+ goal seasons in the future.

But goal scoring is fickle, and when he's not scoring I think Monahan looks more like a 2C than an elite #1 guy.

I make no claims about whether he's near his ceiling yet or not. Only time will tell.

Monny knows that if you want to be team captain of the Flames one day you need to have a slow start so you can turn it up and rock later.

Go did it wrong last year. Maybe he's doing the opposite this year.
