I guess so, but it also means that a lot of people won't be able to protect themselves from infection if their partner carries the virus, doesn't know it, and tests won't show it.
And as much as it's physically harmless, it's not without other harms particularly given the social stigma associated with STIs.
But yeah, a bit surprised there isn't a vaccine for it. I wonder if the medical community has really just filed it under "no big deal" and allocated its efforts elsewhere. I would have thought big pharmacy would be all over it though. There's a lot of likely customers out there.

From what I understand, the tests for it are rather expensive and can be pretty unreliable unless the person is actually in the midst of an outbreak.

HPV is not physically harmless, I'm pretty sure it's cancer causing in both men and women.
I didn't know that it was not tested for. That seems kind of nuts.

EDIT- thought you said Herpes
They just treat HPV as they can (IE the symptoms). Since something like 80% of the population has it, they don't bother testing it because they can't treat the actual virus anyway.

Or maybe just took a health & sexuality class in university, which I would recommend for most undergrads, because the sex ed curriculum taught in most provincial high schools is woefully inadequate.

Only some kinds of HPV are cancer causing. The rest are benign or cause things like warts.
A bit of Web research tells me that, in fact, all warts are caused by HPV viruses. So if you've had a wart, you've had an HPV infection. Hell, statistically, if you've had sex with 2 or more people you've almost assuredly been exposed to HPV. Interesting.

Really? You can get credit for that in University?
Is it just $500 to walk into an empty lecture hall that has a bowl full of condoms on the desk? Because I think the Student's Union gives those out for free.
It'd be a hell of a GPA booster though.

Man, there are a lot worse courses than "Heath and Sexuality" to hate on for GPA boosters. I once took an English Science Fiction/Fantasy course that was literally all graphic novels.
It was awesome.
But hey, it's no Accounting, the real heroes.

Aw man really? I took all the crappy classes.
Accountants are heroes. Its about time we started getting some well-deserved recognition.

I've taken some pretty ridiculous GPA boosters in my time (looking at you "Cultural History of Vampires"), this wasn't one of them. Was actually a really good and informative class.

Business schools tend not to allow for much options outside of their own faculty. It helps breed the hero complex.
Seriously though, if you need to choose an elective course and aren't sure what to choose, just go to the library and look through what book(s) will be studied. I did this for my two English credits and it was for sure the best way to choose those classes.

Well we have to go out and get jobs so that we can funnel money back as Alumni.
And its not a problem. I'm never going back to University.

That wasn't what prompted me to make the joke, but ok. You know, it's ok to lighten up every once in a while.
Anyway, for my own experience, I get the occasional cold sore around my mouth, but I remember getting them since I was very young. So I didn't get it from sex obviously. Also, I've never gotten sores, 'down there', so I always thought this was a different strain. I know there are many different strains, that in fact chicken pox and shingles are types of herpes.
Funny enough, I caught shingles when I was 21, a disease most people think is a 'old person' disease the way chicken pox is a childhood disease. Still have no idea how I got it, but I suspect it was from work. I was selling cars, and I was constantly shaking hands meeting and greeting people. The location I was at, had a bunch of retirees and senior citizens coming in to drink the free coffee and talk about their trucks. Like Mayor Quimby in a old Simpsons episode when he got a bad cold I thought, 'I knew I shouldn't have shaken hands with those old people!'

Off Topic, but I once took a Comedy and Culture class.
Wrote my term paper on John Candy.

Surferguy and I took Platform Diving in University. Best credits ever. Trampoline practice Friday morning after a night at The Den was, however, not so awesome.
