I think part of the problem is MONEY. When you bring in a young player and pay him more than he's worth at his stage of development, you not only overburden him, but somehow throw things out of whack for the rest of the players and what they expect for remuneration for their contribution (Russell comes to mind). I recall Phaneuf and others seemed to be adversely affected by big pay days.

At the same time, dropping someone like Byron, who was a solid contributor, and who was only being paid $900K, also didn't help.

You can't buy things like team chemistry, spirit, and confidence.

This team can't score and one thing you can't expect Paul Byron to do is score.

As Jiri said in a different thread this team doesn't need more marginal NHLers they have more than enough of those.

The terrible goaltending really has me baffled. It was a source of strength last season, all three of them. Ortio played well when he was called up two season ago, played well last season, and last night it looked like he could'nt stop a beach ball. Did carrying three goalies shake the confidence in all three of the goalies? I really don't get it.

Unfortunately, as we saw last night, he's a better marginal NHLer than several of the current Flames...

Where did the Flames go?

No idea. But we need to get this monkey off our backs. I sense the Oiler game tonight will either be the start of a turnaround or the start of a real shake up.

I can't stand watching anymore. I've never really left games early and turned games off until this season. If we ##### the bed in Deadmonton tonight there has to be changes.
