That blanket design has been in production for over 200 years...which for a country as young as Canada is quite neat. The real blankets are really nice quality (with a price to match). Funnily enough though, as much as they represent Canada and HSBC, they are made in England.

Agreed, these are wonderful blankets. Warm and last forever (yes, literally forever). I have already dibsed my in-law's when they go tits up.
With the history of the blanket, I guess is it fitting that they are made in the UK. I suspect they always were, but don't for sure.

Oh, I think the idea of the blankets are great, I've just always found the colour scheme to be off-putting. Personal preference.

Cool, that's fair. I think they are quite elegant myself, but we all have different tastes.

A collection of Canadian foods might not be a bad idea. I think we had a thread on things you could not get outside Canada. (Smarties comes to mind.)
Just don't send Kinder Eggs; they get seized.
I also like the idea of Canadian Whiskey, or find out if he's a beer drinker and send him some Canadian beer; especially micro brew stuff. You can get around the issue of sending alcohol across the border by driving across yourself, paying the duty, and using somebody like Montana Shipping Outlet to send it off.

Lawyers always seem to have expensive but slightly tacky memorabilia on their office walls, my divorce lawyer had a collection of shiny Bowie knives and swords in presentation cases and a few replica 19th century pistols.
So Inuit art or a signed hockey print or the like would probably be a good choice.

Seriously, and he'll love this. Get him a Canadian Tuxedo.
A pair of regular fit Levi's. A denim or plaid shirt, and a Lee Jean jacket. If GWG was still available, it would be even better.
I bought this for an American colleague a few years ago as what I thought was a joke/slice of Canadiana, and dude rocks the outfit any chance he gets. His wife loves it too. Says he looks like Chuck Norris...lol.

Not always, I know a guy who knows a guy who sent some through regular mail earlier this year that made it through just fine. But yes I do believe they screen for them.

The gift I would get is a Robert Bateman print.
Classy and Canadian. There is not a place I wouldn't hang one of his paintings.
If you want to go novelty gifts you could do maple suger candy, canadian beer , Ketchup chips, Dill pickle Doritos, real canadian cheese curds so he can make a poutine , hocky memorabilia, CFL gear,Rodgers chocolate, any thing with a maple leaf print pattern on it, something with a beaver on it...... Haha ..giggity , B.c smoked salmon, Alberta beef ,etc etc....

Actually, along that line of thinking maybe a small gold maple leaf coin would be good. Not sure what size would be in the $500 range these days (1/4 oz?) but the Canadian gold coins are renowned for their purity.
