Possibly. I think that Rychel is an upgrade Poirer (and I like Poirer). Wotherspoon is a throw in the flames can afford as the depth on D is extremely high. Maybe it is a slightly better deal for Columbus, but it is still a good deal for the Flames

Think we're undervaluing Russell here. The league leading shot blocker (by a wide margin) has to be worth a pretty strong return. And I'd only consider trading him if contract negotiations weren't progressing, as I think he's more valuable to the Flames than what we're likely to get in return. Russell + for Rychel, I wouldn't want the + to be that much.

I don't see how Rychel improves this team in any way. Unless you are considering him a replacement for Raymond, Bollig or Jones, and one of them are headed the other way, it makes no sense to move a defense man for a guy no better than several of our prospects on the farm.

Well Rychel is a prospect that you would look at playing for you team next year I would think and possibly this year potentially so I don't think it really sends a message that you are cashing in on the season with a guy that is 3-4 years away.

I think it shows that the Flames are happy with the guys they have in the AHL, Nakladal, Kulak, Wotherspoon (if not dealt) and realize that they have a bit of depth at the defense position.

If that deal kills the Flames season I am not sure there was much of a season at all considering when healthy there is a good chance Russell ends up as the 5th defenseman.

Yes please. Possibly the exact type of player we are missing.

They have been shopping Rychel pretty hard for a while now, yes? Wouldn't be against adding a prospect like him, but I sure hope none of Andersson, Kylington and Hickey would be part of the deal.

Was just going to ask. I mean, I've heard Rychel rumours since late spring.

Why has the team been shopping him in particular so hard?

His numbers are progressing very well since he was drafted. What does Columbus see or not see?

Is it that they want to get rid of him or that they realize they need to give something of value up to get something back in return?

They have pretty decent size with their wingers in Hartnell, Saad, Foligno, Clarkson and centers in Johansson, Jenner and Dubinsky. So I think that Rychel is a guy that they maybe don't need as much and that can bring back a good return.

Freidman on the Fan said that Rychel wants to play in the NHL and he could be the one asking for a trade

My feeling here is that he is being shopped as this team is under pressure to start competing, and whilst their forward ranks look good, they don't look good on D. So you trade a valuable asset in a position of strength to bolster an area of weakness.

The Flames have a surplus of NHL calibre D when Brodie is back - their main issue as a team is energy and compete level IMO, and a trade can serve to give the team a jolt - it puts veteran guys on notice

Rychel would fit what the Flames are attempting to do - get bigger guys capable of playing in the top 6 (upside). I could see in future a Rychel - Bennett - Poirier line being a nightmare for opponents on the forecheck and cycle. Adding another guy who is on the cusp of being an NHL contributor would also help the team to walk away from Hudler after this season

Friendman on 960 this morning:
Quote:
“I think Calgary is looking for a little help on the wings and is maybe willing to get a little bigger there. Columbus would like to trade Kerby Rychel, but they’re asking a lot – as they should. From what I understand, it’s a price that Calgary is not willing to pay at this particular point in time.

“So I wouldn’t be surprised if it was getting another look in at him, because a lot of teams are watching Kerby Rychel. But I’ve been told that unless Columbus is willing to come down a little bit on what it wants, that’s not a deal that Calgary is willing to make.”

Unless they had a sudden change in heart with Kylington, I don't think they want him.

They could have taken him with the 58th OA pick a few months ago.

Shea Theodore is an outstanding prospect, and holds more value than Rychel. If that was the ask from Anaheim, then Columbus is purposely overvaluing Rychel to see if they can get someone to bite. I wouldn't be surprised if the ask from Calgary was a near NHL ready goalie in Ortio or Gilles, and Treliving is trying to push them into Russell +.

Just the fact that the Flames are looking at him indicates that management has identified missing toughness in their lineup/organization.

How much better is Rychel than Poirier?

Having Colborne and Bouma out kind of exposed the Flames with Ferland being the only Flame power forward..
No the fact that the Flames have been saying this since the Jay Feaster's 2nd year as GM is fact that management has identified toughness is missing in the organization. Or did you just recently start following the team?
