Money and JG will not be making 7 mil. Perhaps 5.5 to 6. Hopefully even less for true bridge contracts. Wideman is most likely traded for picks and prospects. Hiller won't be resigned unless he has a stellar year. Hopefully can do something with the contracts of either Raymond or Smid. Although you continue to save cap with Smid on LTIR which will likely happen. We will be good for cap.

This is how I think next year's roster probably rolls out
Russell and Jones go elsewhere as UFA
Colborne RFA Rights traded for draft pick to avoid arbitration
Stajan traded for draft pick (IMO has positive value at his contract)
Gaudreau: $6,500,000 | Monahan: $6,500,000 | Frolik: $4,300,000
Granlund $800,000 | Bennett: $925,000(+Bonus) | Hudler $5,650,000
Bouma: $2,200,000 | Backlund: $3,575,000 | Jooris: $950,000
Ferland: $825,000 | Arnold $866,000 | Hathaway $700,000
Bollig: $1,250,000
Agostino: $925,000
Giordano: $6,750,000 | Brodie: $4,650,400
Smid: $3,500,000 | Hamilton: $5,750,000
Whomever of Nakladal/Wotherspoon/Sieloff/Kulak/Culkin/Morrison: $900,000 | Wideman: $5,250,000
Raanta: $2,600,000| Ortio: $1,150,000
Raymond Buyout: $1,050,000
Engelland Buyout (could be a Smid Buyout too, which saves a smidge more but I think this team is in more dire need of LHD if Russell walks, especially if Brodie is a fixture on the right side): $972,223
Salary Cap: ~$73,800,000-76,600,000
Cap Hit: ~$73,787,000
Cap Space: ~$13,000-$2,832,000

Regarding your first point, don't you think they have earned bigger contracts than Hamilton?
I don't think Wideman can be traded until next years deadline. His contract gives him negative value. Raymond and Smid untraceable without taking back equally bad contracts.

Smid is in the lineup tonight.
We might get Johnny and Monahan for that for 1-2 years but the net benefit of a bridge deal is questionable. It's a question of if you're better off just doing the big money contract now (Tarasenko), rather than hardballing to a cheapskate bridge deal and giving him 9 mil 2 years from now. (Subban)

The CBA changed so that you can't bury your bad contracts in the minors to avoid the cap hit, right?

Yes. You can only bury up to a certain amount of each contract. The amount changes as the CBA progresses.
2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000

Smid hasn't been on LTIR the entire time he was injured, and now he's healthy. And even if he was on LTIR, you only get relief for the amount he puts the Flames over the ceiling.
Counting on cap relief from Smid being injured is silly.

I think an Ortio-Gillies tandem may be one of the solutions, unless Hiller will sign for less than $2.5M. If the team is looking like a contender, but goaltending is a concern, then perhaps they take a look at someone like Lehtonen or Niemi mid season; I'm sure Dallas doesn't want to keep paying $10M+ for goalltending for the next three years. Maybe Brian Elliott, Darcy Kuemper, Pavelec, etc. could be other options.
